Haaland at City | Signs new 9.5 year contract

I don't think there's more than a 1% chance that they actually get tossed out of the pl. But if they do I can see them loaning him out for a year or two until they're back.

Yes, that's my (hopeful) take.
City know they are going down for a while
And want to ensure he's with them once they are back in PL. Loan him out to top leagues to keep his abilities up in the meanwhile

City players dont care if they get relegated. Why would they. They would still get paid, probably with a nice bonus for staying. They will win the Championship and then the next season back to winning the Prem for x number of years. Thats better than any other club they go to except Real Madrid and even there they wont get the cash they would at City - back handers included

9.5 years is a shrew business

Wages for superstar only goes up. 350k this year is peanuts (relatively speaking) in the 6th year and beyond.

Plus contracts are just a piece of paper. If one party feels it's time they can still move on. It's not written in blood.

Halaand is one of the best striker in the world and tying him up for the next 9 years is a good deal. If he's injured there's insurance I'm sure. If he turns to shit he can still be sold, and they can make him so uncomfortable he'll move on.

They're not dumb.

From Halaand point of view he's gonna be playing for the foreseeable future, he's young and should Madrid comes knocking contract is easy to break either amicably or going AWOL.

Plus he just won a treble. Like it or hate it the only club worth upgrading can be counted with 1 hand and 5 fingers

It won't be a static wage - it'll go up over the years.

Plus there will be that second wage that he's getting from some random Abu Dhabi shell company too.

Feels odd that nobody is reporting a wage when for other clubs they are happy to speculate.
Reported as "among the most lucrative sporting contracts ever". So when you take into account the contracts that NFL, NBA, MLB players sign and the money they're on, he's not going to be shy for the rent for a bit.

What are the wage budget rules in the lower leagues? Assuming the plan is to try and sign down players they want to keep if they get banished, would they be fecked anyway due to wage budget rules and still have to sell?

Wages must be insane (£600k+/week) for him to be stupid enough to commit for 10 years. It's going to bankrupt City if that's the case. Not sure if it's going to be funded by getting rid of KDB in the summer and replacing him with a cheaper player?

Has he signed? Or has he just agreed to it and will wait for the verdict to sign?

Where are you getting 350k from? Most reports are saying upwards of 500k.

I agree with most of what you said though. There will be so many get out clauses for both parties that this is mostly performative. If Haaland wants out, he can afford to give up the money, and to be frank another team will likely give him a huge wage anyway. If city want him out, they will find a way to pay him a tonne of money through Abu Dhabi off the books.

Bankrupt? City have gone well past that. They’re now a legitimate club that can claim their sponsorships are above board due to their success.

Maybe if it continues to slide, Pep leaves, they get the rebuild wrong and have to spend a load of money, there’s a good chance of some PSR problems. But their inflated sponsorships do protect them from any actual financial trouble.

And the 4D chess play is revealed. Haaland secretly grew up a Manchester United fan, rebelling against his father. He has now achieved his goal: Financially ruining his fathers club in the ultimate revenge ploy after Alfie injured his boyhood hero: Roy Keane.

He's always had release clauses in his contracts, and pretty low ones at that, so he'll have a relegation release clause, and I think probably a standard release clause too for when he feels like moving on.

He's had a "pretty low" release clause at Manchester City?

Bankrupt them? it`s a drop in the Ocean for them...

So much for "Haaland is a mercenary journeyman who stays 3 years max at a club"
Once the Abu Dhabis get their oily claws in you they own you forever.

The biggest indicator yet that they've avoided major punishment. Along with Peo staying on and the deals they are doing in Jan, forget about it.

It would have been £150m this year before the new contract was signed which I'd say is pretty reasonable going off what top and even not so top players have been going for recently. But you're right, I wouldn't call that one pretty low. Just not stupid high like the clauses in Spain. That price was due to decrease again in 2026 though. He'll surely have something similar set up, perhaps with higher clauses this time, but he's never had unobtainable release clauses.

Well that's them not getting relegated then. No way would they have done this unless they knew they'd still be in the PL after the charges hearing thing.

I thought you were able to give long contracts but the fees would be limited to 5 years on accounts rather than whatever length that contract was.
Does that not mean his 900k a week needs to be amortised in half the time so they technically have 1.8m per week to deal with for PSR?

This has nothing to do with City's impending punishment, relax. Where would Haaland go? The only clubs that could afford him likely wouldn't want him - Barcelona or Madrid. PSG, he might as well play in League One. Bayern... Maybe but can't see them spending the required amount either. Haaland would be stupid to not sign this contract, even if they get severely punished. Also, there is a buyout clause after a few years.

Will be there till he's 34. No need for a club like city to factor in risk when the money doesn't matter anyway.

Will smash all records in the championship.
