Gun shots outside Parliament: Police shoot assailant following car attack on Westminster Bridge

Two possible casualties at an entrance of parliament itself, and reports of people being treated on Westminster Bridge.

Walked by here many times...

Horrendous, hope no one's hurt too badly.

Might have used a car to run over pedestrians on Westminster Bridge. The pavement is open to the road until you get nearer to parliament, at which point large concrete blocks are in place to prevent ramming by vehicles.

Exactly one year after the Brussels terrorist attacks :( FFS

Donald and Nigel tweeting bile in 5...4...3...

Feck, hopefully no-one else badly hurt.

Quentin Letts from the DM said he saw the shooting and was praising the pice's reaction times.

Could send ripples or waves around the country and across the channel if it's an IS attack. Much shit to follow, I fear. Hope the victims are not too seriously wounded or injured.

Guards shot man as he ran toward entrance of parliament. Can't fault the armed police, good job.

Thankfully limited casualties so far. Looks to be a lot of ongoing activity hopefully just precautionary

Various sources on Twitter reporting between 12 and 15 people wounded/injured.

Cars as weapons seems to be standard now, just horrendous.

Hopefully he's not too seriously injured, and that these incidents aren't related (the car and the stabbing).
It might be the same guy who drove the car. I think we're only looking at one nutter. Drover car over people on the bridge, then stabbed a police office outside HoP

Or maybe it's seperate

Mark Urban suggesting it was just one guy, but he may just be relaying reports.

And entirely unstoppable. Nothing to stop a nutter getting a car/van/truck.

Looked a lot like a bodybag in BBC shot of the bridge then. Hopefully mistaken

Two incidents, one guy according to Laura Kuenssberg. Ministers rushed to safety and the Palace of Westminster and surrounding area are in lockdown.

Terrible, and as someone else said, how can you avoid a nutter getting into a car!

Feck off bollards along all the main pavements?

Probably one of the easier things to stop, at least in the most touristy areas, to be fair. Events could have some sort of large temporary, very heavy devices that can be dropped into place.
The amount they spend on fighting wars, cost shouldn't be a problem.

AI controlled bollards on the pavement and in public areas? (50 years in the future) :(

I think we'll see the security perimeter expanded and more done to protect pavements in the area after this.

Bit of a screw up on BBC News there.

They have them outside London train stations to stop that kind of attack.

The other ways are by having strong police community links in high risk areas which increases the chance of informants coming forward and by surveillance of potential attackers.
