Manchester United will face competition from Barcelona for Granada fullback Guilherme Siqueira this summer.

United chief scout Martin Ferguson has made checks on the Brazilian in the last two weeks and has been told by Granada directors they won't block the 25 year-old from leaving.

Siqueira's contract carries a €15 million buyout clause, though United will seek to pay less than half that amount.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is also keen and recently declared: "Siqueira is a fantastic wing-back who we must follow very closely."

Barca will step up their interest with another fullback transfer target, Jordi Alba, now leaning towards penning new terms with Valencia.

Anyone ever seen him play?
Brilliant name btw!

We do need a LB. Evra's form has been poor and Fabio isn't played much for whatever reason.

Or that he isn't a left back.

Well Fabio it seems has only made 5 league appearances this season, putting him only half way towards a theoretical Premier League winner's medal. On the other hand he did start the Champions League final (though at right-back) so who knows, but another left-back option isn't a ridiculous suggestion.

For whatever reason, Fabio has played more games for us at right back than at left back. There have been plenty of chances to give him more time on the left but clearly Sir Alex has decided against it. If I recall correctly Fabio was selected on the right even when we had Evans filling in at left back for example. We could have used Fabio on the left and someone else on the right. So even though I think he's fine as a left back, and indeed he's impressed me with some of his performances there... He's picked there so little that it suggests the manager isnt too keen on it.

This is my thinking too, maybe Fergie sees him as a right back, and sees him and Rafael sharing that role. Cover at fullback positions is always nice to have.

Don't think that will happen. Didn't the brothers say that if one of them ends up not playing because they are sharing the role or something else that he would leave, the brother that doesn't play? They aren't any different from other footballers. If they don't play despite training well etc. they will end up wanting to leave.

We really should be more interested in this guy I feel.

I watched him in both leg's against Juventus and he seem's defensively sound, but his stamina and speed when going forward is amazing. If I remember correctly Madrid wanted him, but they haven't signed any deals. He should certainly be on the potential short list.

Yeah he´s very good. First time since Coentrão left that Benfica has a good left back. He is on loan at Benfica and has a 7 million euros clause. I think they will activate that clause.

28 years old though. I would much prefer to sign someone younger like Shaw or Coentrao (although the latter now seems to be impossible with Ancelotti trusting him on big matches).

I think he will stay at Benfica. Like i said, he is very good but i don´t know if he´s United material. He would be cheap for United standarts but the age is a big handicap. Benfica is his level.

He's the one Madrid wanted as back up for Marcelo once the Coentrao loan was agreed isn't he?

Yeah, he was linked to Barcelona as well. Thought he would've been perfect to rotate with Alba who was ultimately bought back. A fierce competitor, terrific at fks & pks, great motor, size & speed. Would've much preferred him to Adriano

Does his move to Madrid still look like a go-ahead in the summer, or are Madrid going to pursue alternative left backs like Moreno for example?

We were supposed to get him, but Madrid fecked us and we ended up with Cissokho. I saw him a bit last season and he reminds me of Fab Aurelio.
