Who do you reckon is the greatest rebel in film?

Just to start you off, there is (back in pre-historic times) Mickey Rooney in "Boys Town". James Dean in "A rebel without a cause", Malcolm McDowell in "If" and "A clockwork orange" and Ewan McGregor in "Trainspotting".

There must be many others. Who do you reckon are the great rebels?

Han Solo/Harrison Ford - Star Wars.
Brando - The Wild One.

Yeh! Brando. I always thought "The Wild Ones" somehow detached from reality or social realism. Maybe because it was uniquely American that I couldn't relate. Good shout though!

Not Ford/Solo - not reality. Not what I'm talking about. In that respect all heroes are rebels.

Han Solo was a rebel, though and a mercenary. And probably the only character in Stars Wars with a personality. The rest were so two dimensional. He clearly wasn't a classical hero. . . he never wanted to become one.

Brando the wild one cos it was uniquie for its time and by god he was good,

on the waterfront was my fav film of his tho..

Giant...Jimmy deans last film was a classic and yeh he was a rebel in that,

Great call on Malcolm McDowell! ;)

Will get round to buying 'If' on dvd when I return from my holiday in a fortnight...been waiting years for this to come around...a scratchy old VHS recording from the TV doesn't do it justice!

Steve McQueen.

The ultimate rebel.

He played one in virtually all of his films - The Great Escape, Papillon, The Thomas Crown Affair...

He was also a complete rebel in real life, as a world class motorcyclist, martial arts expert(trained by Chuck Norris, I shit you not), and coming from a boys reform school.
