Greatest ODI Cricket Team

It was hard to exclude certain players but here goes:

Sachin Tendulkar
Sanath Jayasuriya
Viv Richards
Ricky Ponting
Michael Bevan (one of the most dependable player)
Adam Gilchrist
Kapil Dev (Would have chosen Hooper for an allrounder instead of Kapil Dev)
Wasim Akram
Anil Kumble (confused b/w him or Saqlain)
Michael Holding
Glenn McGrath

Tendulkar
Sehwag ( I am surprised myself that I chose him but he is deadly, it was between him, Jayasuriya and Hayden)
Lara
Richards
Bevan
Imran Khan
Adam Gilchrist
Holding
Akram
McGrath
Muralidharan

I selected

S. Tendulkar
S. Anwar

R. Ponting
V. Richards
M. Bevan

A. Gilchrist

I. Khan

W. Akram
G. McGrath
J. Garner

S. Warne

Slight Australian bias. Especially in selecting Warne over Murali. But I like their mentality.

Sachin Tendulkar
Sanath Jayasuriya
Brian Lara
Ricky Ponting
Michael Bevan
Adam Gilchrist
Jacques Kallis
Wasim Akram
Muttiah Muralidaran

My Team:

Sachin Tendulkar
Matthew Hayden
Brian Lara
Viv Richards
Ricky Ponting
Imran Khan
Adam Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Michael Holding
Glenn McGrath
Muttiah Muralidaran

These things are always hard to do. I mean Gilchrist was always an opener in ODI's. Feels wrong putting him in the lower middle order.

We could pretty much pick a few teams and they would be just as good as each other.

Of the players I've seen:

Tendulkar
Gilchrist
Ponting
Lara
Kallis
Beven
Warne
Mcgrath
Akram
Allan Donald
Murli

Gone for 5 bowlers because surely that batting line up should be good enough. Actually having a tough time with the batsman. I feel I'm missing out on some top quality one day batsman. I don't think Kallis would be very good at no.5 and he's not as good above as the players I've put, So I want to replace him with a midle order batsman but noones coming to mind.

Also, I don't think Lara would do very well at number 4. Inzamam would probably be better than him. And Lara IMO isn't as good as no.3 as Ponting. Tough calls.

Jayasuriya
Tendulkar
Ponting
Lara
Richards
Khan
Gilchrist
Akram
Waqar
McGrath
Warne

Two all-rounders to make up for have two walking ducks.

Tendulkar
Gilchrist
Ponting
Bevan
Inzi
Jonty Rhodes
Klusener
Warne
Akram
McGrath
Kumble

I loved Klusner. What a shame that semi final in 99 was. And he was unbelievable in that tournament. It's amazing how a player who made his career on the word 'bottle' was part of a duo that lost it for one delivery and blew their chances for the WC.

That was unbelievable, still not sure why Donald ran for that?!

One of the best cricket matches of all time though that!

Klusener in that tournament was something else!

Aye he was. Still remember how he almost single handedly won the semi final. Loved his baseball style batting stance aswell

I don't remember the stats were but I think he was dismissed just once or twice in the whole tournament and finished most matches off for them. Was something. That was the last great world cup IMO. 1999 and 1996 were brilliant. The ones after have been average despite us doing well in 2003.

When's Australia hosting it again? to be fair, they know how to put on a good tourno. And 99 was great despite the ropey weather.

To be fair, the Asian sub continent put on a brilliant world cup in 96. But since then A) cricket has started turning shit and B) the tournament structure with the extra inane teams has made it worse.

Yeah 96 was good...but largely thanks to Sri Lanka's different approach. They were a breath of fresh air. The last WC's the worst I've seen, though. Shame really, what a waste of a great location.

Adam Gilchrist
Sachin Tendulkar
Ricky Ponting
Brian Lara
Viv Richards
Imran Khan
Murali Muralitharan
Shane Warne
Wasim Akram
Allan Donald
Glenn McGrath

Conflicted as to whether Gilchrist should open and stick Murali in. Aravinder de Silva was another I wanted to put in.

Surprised that many people are picking Warne over Murali, always thought that Warne wasn't that great in ODI's and his record isn't that impressive.

Can't argue with you there KM, personally I have a slight bias for Warne so I think I'll have to re-edit to include both.

Gilchrist
Greenidge
Lara
Richards
Tendulkar
Jonty Rhodes
Flinthoff
Botham
Hadlee
Warne
McGrath

Got about all grounds covered there; bowling, batting and fielding.
