Seen a lof stuff and nonsense about different saves since the Turkey keeper made that save last night. People calling it the best save ever etc etc.. comparing it to Gordon Banks etc.

Similar to goals, it's all about personal preference. But what is your favourite save of all time? Or which one do you think is the best ever? Personally I love it when a player turns away in absolute disbelief that they haven't scored.

Jim Montgomery - FA Cup final double save, the first one is ok, the second one is pretty much unbelievable. Saw this on some highlight show years ago, incredible save.

David Seaman finger tip save. Old rubber spine somehow managed to claw this out.

Neuer vs Arsenal, probably should have scored but this was brilliant goalkeeping.

Schmeichel vs Liverpool, yes it was for City. But I think this is one of the best saves he ever made. It's at 2.50, it's the speed and agility to get down and back up to catch the ball again at nearly 40 for his size, incredible.

Kahn vs Rangers 1999 CL. Just a little touch to tip it onto the bar.

Dave - couldn't leave him out, save is even better looking from this angle.

And of course.... there was just no need, but then again it was that crazy Colombian.

Hard to beat this in terms of significance. Well into the third minute of added time, in extra time, after a 3-3 roller-coaster of a World Cup Final. And then he did that great pose with the Golden Glove trophy afterwards

I reckon most professional keepers would have saved that shot the Turkish keeper kept out last night

some saves just look good for the cameras

good save, nothing out of the ordinary IMO

Problem solved

Yeah that save last night was jaw dropping, looked absolutely nailed on to score, I was astonished it was kept out. Given the context of the game, the state of the pitch, greasy surface, bouncing up off the ground etc I think it has to be one of the best I've ever seen

The save last night was absolutely world class, why is everyone so desperate to play it down? He was moving to his left as the cross came in, to get a hand to a ball headed back where he came from was sensational.

Most international keepers should be saving that. It was a good save but I'd be disappointed if my keeper didn't save it. In the video I posted above, Pickford makes 4 or 5 of the same save.

It was a fantastic save, given the time of the game, the conditions and how the ball bounced as he was moving the other way. Just think there's a bit of an over reaction calling it one of the best saves ever.

Pickford’s shite though. And a massive bell end. I’m not having him in this conversation.

100% agree.. with his antics on Sunday, he comes across as an absolute gowl and his hair is fecking stupid.

Pickfords when he runs across and into the goal is pretty excellent.

DDG has about nine for me personally.

I'm mainly winding @SilentWitness up but I've always thought there was something a bit off about Pickford's technique. He is very effective, to be fair, but his style of goalkeeping just seems ugly as feck to me. The aesthetics are all wrong. Plus he's definitely a warp factor gowl.

Watch his kicking, it's like he has eight knees in each leg. Very ungainly

My opinion too. It was more about the occasion. The save itself was very good but nothing close to the status it's being given.

I agree. It's a good height for the goalkeeper, and not particularly far from him. Really good save, but let's not go overboard with all the "greatest ever" bullshit. I've seen 10 better saves in this thread already.

Chelsea have had a couple of absolutely fantastic goalies in my time (Cech and Courtois) but when I think of really spectacular saves I always think of Carlo Cudicini.

Maybe it's because he was a smaller goalie and the saves looked more dramatic.

VDS

Barthez

Jaaskaleinen at 1min vs Arsenal. (double save?)

Casillas the second save

And he did it again also against Sevilla

I can't find a video of it but there was this amazing reflex save by Schmeichel when he was playing for the original Man City

The ones that I instantly think of are Schmeichel vs Rapid Vienna and Seaman in the FA Cup. Both are far better than the one last night, which was a fine save but not worthy in this conversation.

Banks save is still better than all of the above as well.

I'm not so good with the links and that, or maybe because I still a newbie I can't, but everyone will know which one I mean anyway.

DDG's save from the Mata freekick was absolutely amazing, when you see how the shot was heading for the postage stamp and he managed to spring across and keep it out. Great because it was a big moment in the match and saved the point.

He probably had even more impressive saves but I think this one was a big turning point in his time here, he'd had a lot of criticism and was struggling to adapt to the league but that save really seemed to give him confidence and helped changed the narrative around him. Funny just watching there now and seeing how much of a young scruffy kid he looked then but boy could he save a shot.

Runner up for me goes to Schmeichel against Zamorano in the treble year. Not the most spectacular or technically impressive but again it was at a big moment in the match and it was just pure Schmeichel.

David Seaman's save was one of the best for me. I remember watching that live and it was a real "holy shitpickles" moment.
The fact that it was behind him is what makes it great for me.

Certainly best save i have ever seen, especially because the free kick was so perfect that was going in to the left side of the net via the corner bar.
