Gaming Grand Theft Auto VI

There was one team deathmatch you made set near Strawberry, ingame, and it was just a clusterfeck of obstacles in the way that made match impossible to navigate it was like takeshis castle shit.

GTA peaked with Vice City. It’s gotten bigger, more detailed, more impressive, but the gameplay is more monotonous and hasn’t moved on much. VC had that balance just right.

Hopefully we’ll see soon if they’ve reinvented their formula or stuck with the old one and given it a new lick of paint.

I loved San Andreas too but I thought it started going downhill after that. I honestly don’t care if they don’t make major strides in other areas but just overhaul and modernise the gameplay please. RDR2 was such a terrific game otherwise but marred by Rockstars stubborn refusal to move the gameplay / combat loop beyond 2002.

I think the existing formula is too much of a money spinner for them to ever change the formula. GTA is in that elite group of games where they can just release the same thing over and over, and people will buy it regardless.

I never managed to get 50% of the way into either GTA5 or RDR2. Yes they had their moments, yes the world building was impressive, but playing them was a chore for me. I’d already played the same games several times before and nothing much had changed, there’s only so much ‘go to X, pick up Y, press the shoot button on these people’ I can take.

You make them sound like EA with FIFA or Ubi with AC.
Think you’re unfairly tarring them with that brush. Especially given it’s been over a decade since the last game in this series.

I didn't care for the map in GTA V. Sure it's big, but it's also pretty boring. I preferred the GTA IV map by far.

I'd rather they did a smaller map with more interior environments, but that seems very unlikely unfortunately.

I think it will be much bigger with more interiors!

I think it was leaked that this one has over 100 interiors but we’ll see. They’ll need to be fleshed out and not just be hollow extra bits of the map.

Rockstar gets this criticism a lot, and perhaps at times they deserve some of the criticisms, but such criticisms are conveniently forgotten when it comes to studios like FromSoftware, who enjoy unending praise for essentially the exact same mechanic since 2009 (with the included licks of paint).

Grand Theft Auto VI should be a platform game.

edit. Apart from the first (classic), I haven't played any version of these games.

Is it all that different? Sure, the development cycle is longer because they can squeeze their existing iterations for so long, but each time it’s essentially the same game with better graphics and a bigger world.

Nostalgia plays a part for sure, but a big reason I prefer those games is also that they're set in a certain time period and the soundtrack is tailored to that. Then again, you could say that's nostalgia for 80's/90's music and you'd probably be right, but I'd quite gladly take a GTA game set in the 60's or 70's but that won't happen.

@swooshboy @Big-Red @Damien @Levo @Duffy @Solius @christy87 @One Night Only remember when @Solius created that wonderfully awful custom map playlist?

Or when @Levo (levo gone from redcafe?) made that Polish guy from here rage quit because he kept spinning him during the racetrack circuit. My guy was screaming bloody murder at the top of his lungs.

Those were the days  someone would always create a race and be dead excited about it, we would all do it and call it dogshit

A few epic races dotted about, and those team kill games were feckin hilarious, bazookaing the cars all over while trying to knock the guys off the floating crates!

They were indeed!

Still think doing the Criminal Mastermind challenge with the guys on here was my greatest gaming accomplishment!

Yeah would have been mine too if not for that pesky @NotoriousISSY

Tbh, that was also probably one of the most hilarious moments in GTA too. So close yet so far. I'm sure it was a suicide with a bazooka too

I don't care about interiors much in GTA, I'm there to boost about in cars and have gunfights. Run people over and bang hookers. That's what it's all about.

Vice City and others are coming to netflix soon. I might go back and play vice city.

It's awful, stick to remembering it as being a great game back in the day.

Edit: not knocking the game, but playing it today isn't a great experience, clunky, and seems fairly hollow and empty.

Oh ok. Must have spent years playing it back in the day.

Yeah same.

I've tried any amounts of old games I've loved, but then been disappointed. There will be atleast one point in the game you always dislikes, as you're replying it you'll remember that bit and already make yourself angry.

I mean, give it a go if you've got a netflix sub anyway, but don't go into it expecting the same feeling you had all them years ago

I am in the minority here, I still love gtav, play it once a week with a few mates online. Never boring for us. One of the best games ever for me. Story mode was fun too 10 years ago, online has so much to do I dont understand how people can be bored with it. Its a big sandbox where you can make your own fun.

People who just do the missions. It's like a lot of games now, the most fun is exploring everywhere and finding new stuff, and generally just pissing about.

The person who only got 50% through RDR2 in this thread is batshit.

RDR2 was pretty awesome, the online thing I think they got all wrong but the story mode was epic. 50% through is just weird

The snipers and ramps one whatever it was was great fun! Getting a headshot as a car was flying at you always felt so good.

I saw a clip of someone playing San Andreas the other day and when I saw what Las Venturas looks like compared to my childhood memory of literally running around a perfect Vegas replica

 when I went back and played Goldeneye my mind vomited

People suiciding by mistake was always great.

Landing a car on there and wiping everyone out was always epic too, however, pulling the cnut out that car then taking the car to move down to the bottom was even better
