Grand Theft Auto 4 delayed until 2008

Haha, pathetic fanboy.

Idiot! I've never owned a PS1 or PS2 in my life, so it's a little difficult to be a fanboy. The difference between you and I is that I can make a comment along the lines of DVD9 not being sufficient for a modern day console and back that statement up. 8GB is not enough storage space. You however come in here with your one liners making you a total idiot that knows feck all.

Right, and they designed the 360 with that in mind, so I don't see the problem with that.

Fair enough, but the fact is that XB360 was rushed to market, it also does not have a HDDVD player built in because of that. Microsoft can spill their blab as much as they want on this matter, but it is a fact that XB360 owners in a years time will be faced will all games being multi-disc. This is not a problem as far as certain games go, you just get off your arse and swap the disc, next level. Very wide open games however where you can wander around anywhere will have a problem. Games that take you along a specific path will not. It's different, level based, or freedom to roam.

That assumes a games developer would actually make a games which are that large, all that wondering requires someone to program for it, that takes time and that costs money.

In a few years games will be too large for DVD9, in a few years however the next version of the XBOX will be around the corner so it will not matter.

Fable 2 would be a problem on 2 discs.

So they do like the last one, sweep it under the carpet and say sorry, not supporting you on that, we've moved on now? It's typical Microsoft bollocks, they take your money and then they screw you because you have feck all else choice. It's in everything they do, they take your money and then they feck you over.

If anyone actually sat back and thought about Microsoft on a rational basis, the company would have gone down the tube a long time ago where it belongs. They have not once produced a decent product by themselves, not once. They simply throw money at things to either A) Market the crap out of the product mostly on a false expectation basis. B) Throw money at totally removing any valid competition. C) Totally tell lies about the competition.

Microsoft are total wankers, and I do work for them!

but surely an 8 disc box set for DVD would give them 72 GB

do you not mean a 6 disc box set?

No I didn't. You are missing the point that A) you cannot put 9Gb of content on a DVD9 for the XB360, it's closer to 7.8 when all things are said and done (a 100Gb Hard Disk does not give you 100Gb on which to store your data, the file system needs to store data regarding the structure of said data on the disc), and you also need to replicate things across all of the discs taking it down to probably 7Gb per disc. 8 x 7 = 56.

I find it funny that people immediately point the finger at the 360. Seeing as the 360 is the lead platform for the game, (Rockstar have had the 360 development kits for a lot longer and already have experience making games for it), the vast majority of the previews have been showing off the 360 version, and the trailers were also made using the 360 version. Despite Rockstar saying the ps3 version is roughly 3 weeks behind in development (in a magazine preview in the last month), people still love to point the finger at Microsoft  The mind baffles.

The mind boggles when people such as you will not accept that DVD9 is a serious limiting factor, especially in a roam where you want game. The reason the XB360 only has DVD9 is a similar problem to the failure rate of the console in that is was cheaply designed, cheaply engineered, and was rushed to market without any foresight whatsoever for the single reason that Microsoft thought that they could get a huge head start over Sony with this round of new console hardware. They fecked up big time with it, and will probably leave 20m+ customers in the lurch when they decide to drop it in two years time.

It won't matter though ... Microsoft fans will get the new one and the story will move onto the next chapter.

I find it funny that no1 believes what you say and you get such a hard time in these threads, I think its good to have someone as informed as yourself on here. For the record I don't have a preference but the current failure rate issue and now this disc format issue (which makes perfect sense) are making me lean in Sony's direction.

So this disc limitation will have been a huge factor in the design of the game, am I correct in assuming that if the product had stayed Sony exclusive they could have produced a higher quality product? Apparently the next Rockstar product will be a Sony exclusive, maybe this is why.

Yes, if the product was designed with BD or HD-DVD in mind as its storage medium, then it allows for a far larger and immersing environment to be created without the need for compression of the data, which we all know is in general lossy compression.

You would have 50Gb (30 in the case of HD-DVD) vs 9Gb (I'm using these numbers in their raw terms, as I said before, you cannot use all of that for content) to play with.

The XB360 actually has an add-on HD-DVD drive (cost you 150 quid or so mind), but it cannot be used for games, only films. Another example of the lack of foresight.

Not only that, but the base XB360 never came with a Hard Disk! When you clock up how much it would cost to add features to the XB360 such as a hard disk, wireless networking, HD-DVD, online gameplay (what is it about 30 quid per year), etc. you have a product that is actually more expensive than a PS3.

Xbox 360 External HD-DVD Drive-£108.09
Xbox 360 Premium System-£266.71
Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter-£54.39
TTL £429.19

Pretty close Weaste ... got those prices from Scan, maybe cheaper elsewhere.

Microsoft are total wankers, and I do work for them!
A friend of our family loves Microsoft, he sold his company to them for millions! Only downside is that he had to stay and work for Microsoft for 3 years... Different people, different opinions... :)

The very fact that nearly every xbox fails makes me want a ps3. My 2nd is on the way out and my mate is on his third now.

The only thing stopping me is Halo3.

fecksake!

How long would you say the average xbox360 lasts?

3 months

This 2nd one hardly gets used. Went on it for the 1st time in a week yesterday for about 30 mins and it was struggling with gears of war.

3 mths? from brand new? fcuk that then ... wanted to get one as a media center extender.
