seemingly better than ever. They replaced the motherboard and DVD drive. Its so silent now that i almost don't recognise it. It was so noisy before it died. But i thought that was normal!

off to download the PES2009 demo and play the new Star Wars game :D

It makes me chuckle how Microsoft has instilled this mentality into it's consumers that reparing their consoles for free, which was proned to break when bought, is somehow a good thing.

its better now than when i bought it!

i really dont give a shit that it broke, they repaired it, it works and its a great games machine. Thats all i care about.

how long's the free repair period, and how much hassle was it? getting seriously tempted by the 360

When they returned mine, the case was cracked and they wouldn't take it back, feck MS.

Do you know that it is yours that has been returned? After I sent mine back I got somebody else's reconditioned one - I knew this because of the date on the label.

Do you prefer PES over Fifa? Both demo's are available.

Fifa >>> PES.

This year again, same as last. PES just seems to have lost something.

Free repair (providing its the 3 quadrants lit up problem, or as most know it "ring of light" or "ring of death" is covered by the extended warranty which is 3 years. After reapin you get an additional 3 years and a free month of xbox live.

It took me 4 days to send it away and get it back. That is really quick mind, someone else on here took about 2 weeks.

I dont like driving games though

For those who asked; it took just over 2 weeks, they also replaced the DVD drive which wasn't part of the RROD prob so thanks for that!, you keep the hard drive so you dont lose anything

They somehow broke the USB sockets on mine when "repairing" it.

I've since bought a PS3 and given the Xbox to my sister

took around 2 weeks for mine too, they replaced my DVD drive from a samsung to hitachi drive or it was the other way around....erm well I now have the one that has no holes in the disc tray.

Is alot quieter for me too, still think the PS3 beats it by miles however

They're not all that different really, except the PS3 comes with a built in wireless adapter, free online play, and, as far as I'm aware, doesn't suddenly stop working by way of shitty design. On the other hand. The extra dosh you need to shell out for one would get you an Xbox wireless adaptor and access to online play anyway.

PS3 wins out for me on the last point, and potentially because of Blueray, though doubt that'll be useful to me anytime soon

fill your boots on the super cheap hd-dvds going at the moment with the 360's hd-dvd add on! i've got both but currently blu rays are a little bit pricey for me to justify upgrading my collection. however when i could get the 360 hd-dvd add on for 24.99 with 2 free hd-dvds and you get the remote included as well, and then you can pick up the discs at 2.99-3.99 a pop then you're laughing when it comes to filling your back catalogue.

as an aside, i'm one of the few people who's 360 has always worked perfectly but my ps3 packed up, sony's customer service is out of this world if the worst happens to your ps3.

I don't generally buy DVDs, let alone HD ones

and you have to buy an add on just to be able to play them on your Xbox?

Microsoft are ripping the piss out of you cnuts and all most of you do is throw more money at them

Xbox + HD DVD Drive + 20 HD DVDS

is still less than a

PS3 + 4 Blu Ray disks.

Throwing money isnt an issue when you have so much left over from buying an Xbox.

hardly, i have most of my collection in other formats but i do like to have some hard copies, and if i have them i like it to be in the best quality possible. with the failure of hd-dvd a firesale started with retailers ditching all their stock at vastly reduced prices. you do need to buy an add on to play hd-dvds on the 360 and it's not the best player out there but when a few months ago it was retailing at £120 picking it up for just over 20quid with 2 hd-dvds thrown in made sense to me as i do like to have some hard copies. i know i could just use the inbuilt blu ray player on the ps3 but if you look at a blu ray price of £17.99 versus hd-dvd £3.99 buy 2 hd-dvds instead of their blu ray counterparts and you've made your money back. depends if you like having hard copies and if there are enough films in the hd-dvd back catalogue that you want to see whether it's worth it or not to someone really.

Yeah, but I'm not going to buy any blueray discs, so I don't care.

I technically own both, and I chose to let someone else have the XBox and keep the PS3, because frankly, the Xbox has just been one rip off of a problem after another, where as the PS3 is basically an Xbox designed by someone who isn't a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime

There's a damning verdict on the Xbox for you. Weep away fanboys

Meh, I have both, but i am going to get Fifa on the 360 due to the vastly superior online quality I have on Xbox for some reason at my house.

I am not a fan boy of either, was just making a point that you said about throwing money at MS, you were throwing more initially at Sony for the machine alone.

i prefer my ps3 these days after a slow start and pretty much buy all my cross platform games in ps3 format. having both though you may as well take advantage of any offers that either format provides if they interest you.

That's fair enough. I wasn't having a go mate.

HD DVDs just arn't of interest to me.

fair do's, i know what you mean about the ps3 having a much better build quality. it just feels like a premium bit of kit whereas the 360 does seem to have been put together by a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.
