Thought a thread about good music this year, should be here. Gives us all a chance to discover new music from the year 2009. In December this will hopefully give a good look of the music year 2009. So please submit your own favorites from this year (and this year only) and don't worry about the genre or how commercial or underground it is.

I'll start with 2 albums I really like.

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Genre: Experimental/Indie Rock

Morrissey - Years of Refusal

Genre: Rock/Soft-rock

No download links please, if you need some of those albums there are other ways possible.

What, are Animal Collective commercial now? I know I haven't been paying much attention to the music world these last 12 months, but I didn't expect that.

Well maybe not. I'll edit that out.

I'm still waiting for the new Rancid album to be released. If they release it this year it's gonna be the best album in 2009.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Malevolent Grain

Two track EP on vinyl only from arguably Black Metal`s most exciting band. Track 1, A Looking Resonance has some lovely female vocals on it. A full length album follows in the spring.

I finally got the opportunity to download this today. I'm not mad about A Looming Resonance - it reminds me of Loveless, but not enough. Hate Crystal is great, though. It makes me hear violins.

Man, My Bloody Valentine were something else.

Pure Reason Revolution - Amor Vincit Omnia

Am I the only person on this forum that has time for any of the following:

Dubstep
DnD
Indie
House
Minimal
Hiphop
Triphop
Electro

Just wondering if anyone else was into these types of music.

I listen to a fair bit of dubstep, and getting quite into funky house (house/grime/soca hybrid) which is probably the most exciting new music around at the moment. Some interesting instrumental hip-hop getting released again, flying lotus etc.

Nope, I dabble in pretty much all of those genres amongst others.

Ahhh, one of my mates knows Flying Lotus. Saw him in Manchester recently, was absolutely amazing. I've seen all the big players in Dubstep too, and I'm a proper house head. You been to any Warehouse Projects / Paradise Factory?

I went to one of the Warehouse nights. The last 'big' thing I went to was the Futuresonic night with Kode9/Actress/HATE, Kode9 was great. Pretty funky for a dour jock.

I've seen FlyLo once when he opened for the Rza in the Union, he was great, far better than the Rza. Probably the most charismatic dj i've seen, really worked the crowd and the live beat manipulations were ridiculous. How does you mate know him - does he produce as well?

I'm trying to work out whether to go and see Shackleton on Sunday at Saki Bar. Not really into his more recent stuff, but the skull disco stuff was really good.

Saki Bar in Fallowfield? Had a few sweaty DnB nights there myself, it's right next to my old college - Xaverian. Yeah my mate produces as well. I've started dabbling with djing recently, my mate's teaching me on his mp3 decks.

Yeah that one. Only been there once and was hammered from a Didsbury Dozen session so can't remember a lot about it other than we ended up at some girls place who offered us the dodgiest looking bag of pills, and wanted to show is her hamster. A strange night!

Check the Hip-Hop thread Doogie, P.A's new album is out and it is the best thing I've heard all 09, the whole album is flawless!
