That Hitman thread has got me thinking on how movies based on games, and vice versa are usually awful and very rarely do we see a decent release based on the concept.

Was wondering if you can recall any examples where the game/movie based on the specific franchise was actually any good.

On the top of my head, I can remember Goldeneye being an excellent movie-to-game conversion with the first Tomb Raider actually being a decent movie.

Anymore?

Alien and Alien vs Predator have had some pretty good games. Can't imagine there ever being too many the other way around though.

it was alright, could have picked better people than Van Damme and Kylie though

Its not just that, there were so many things wrong with that film:

-Ryu and Ken were best mates,

-Balrog was a good guy, and was mates with the sumo wrestler and Chun Li the "journalist"

-Sagat was a little bitch.

-They made a complete mockery of Zangief who decided to become a good guy

-Van Damme as Guile

and I could go on.

I'm not sure there has been a direct great tie-in but obviously there has been some great star wars games, though perhaps you could count the Rogue Squadron series as a tie-in.

Star Wars flight simulators are awesome. The jedi knight series is also good. The first KOTOR was good as well.

Apparently a warcraft movie was meant to be in the drafts. Couldnt really go wrong there.

I am surprised they haven't made a movie for GTA.

All the gangsta stuff and all!!

I recall going to the cinema to see the Final Fantasy film- turgid.

There was a good X-files game on the PC about 10 years or so ago. It had 9 cd's hehe! Not really movie/game conversion but similar.

They should make a Zelda movie but not cgi...maybe Del Torro could do a job on it with his dark European fantasy stylee.

Actually, rockstar have made a VERY short movie based on GTA 2:

Here it is, its only about 8 minutes long (the character in this movie is based on Claude, the protagonist in GTA 3):
