Arsenal set for Manchester United transfer battle over two rising Benfica stars

Arsenal and Manchester United are tracking Benfica youngsters Goncalo Guedes and Joao Nunes with a view to a summer double swoop, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People..

The Gunners and champions United have sent scouts to watch winger Guedes, 17,and central defender Nunes, 18, and the feedback has been positive.

Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are also keen, and the duo have £350,000 release clauses in their deals.

Guedes has two goals and one assist from his five games in Europa's UEFA Youth League this season - an accompaniment to the Champions League that pits Europe's top youngsters against each other.

Defender Nunes has played every minute of Benfica's campaign in the Youth League, even netting a goal in the Portuguese side's 4-1 romp over Paris Saint-Germain.

Combination of the first team's need for serious top-quality reinforcement and the abundance of very promising home-grown talent already spilling over in our youth sides makes me less excited about these sorts of rumours than I used to be.

350,000 release clause? Woodward will probably haggle at 275,000 and then sign them for 27.5 million a month later.
 
None of them plays in central midfield.
