Gonçalo Inácio

Not sure we’d prioritise a CH when we have four (?) that seem ok-decent and CM, 9 and LWB are more pressing.

According to abola we are still negotiating to buy Gaitan.

It is obviously not true. Amorim was quite firm about not buying from Sporting this january.

But if it where, Inacio probably could play left wing back. He did so against Porto last year, and was decent.

For a squad player, strong competition for Martinez instead of Branthwaite or get Branthwaite next summer if we are selling Martinez is decent planning. Short term fix for the LWB too if he can play there. We need more left footers who can defend. I’d much rather Nuno M this window as I think he’d transform our creativity but PSG don’t seem to want to sell which is totally fair.

Also a Crap source. This guy is linked with a move every window for the last 4 years.

The last couple of formations for Sporting under Amorim have had him at LWB. I think if we can’t get our number 1 LWB target until the summer. Why not have this guy come in do a role and climatise to the physicality of the league before going back to Left CB.

I think LCB is a medium term problem, which might be moved forward due to competition from Dortmund and a reasonable deal on the table.
For 35m he’s a solid pickup compared to the drawn out negotiation needed for Branthwaite.
Dorgu is the other option i see, but he would need molding.

Regarding Martinez, i think he is a solid option, but i dont see him as a week in week out player. I think he’ll get targeted or just not suit specific games. However i see him as an elite squad player who can be slotted in or rotated.

Dorgu is a WB.

For me, Martinez has been very hit and miss this season. It would be nice with another quality option, but I agree that it is far from our most pressing need.

He's an excellent player though, basically Martinez with strength and recovery pace.

Dont think theres much difference in pace, but he's certainly taller, better in the air and scores a couple of goals with his head per season whilst being similar with the ball. Sporting have had a pretty good defensive record with him in there, even though he wins the ball less than Lisandro on the floor

He's been out with injury since December 10th which would be one of my main concerns with signing a new CB. Its not a regular problem with him but something to keep in mind

I can understand why the club wants him.

Evans and Lindelof are out of contract in the summer, which only leaves the squad with 4 centre backs for the 3 positions, leaving the squad very light.

Would love him at our club, but surely we should use that money on a LWB and/or CF???

Suspect Amorim sees him as the right sort of character as well. Fits in with his lack of onfield leadership comments.

I dont see him as a WB at the highest level, i think alot of his current fanfare is due to him being gungho rather than having a skillset for it.
His skillset looks like FB or left of a three - a budget Maldini.

Dorgu? He plays as a winger most often for his club, why would he be a CB?

They aren't the ones reporting the story though are they, like many others they disseminate from other outlets.
They are involved with it so that makes it utter shite.
If they were more selective in what they associate with then they would obviously have more credibility.

CB is an essential position for Amorim. I think, it was very obvious that we would go for one of Sportings CBs sooner or later. Which is exactly why burning another years of wages for Maguire wasn't something of the "we had no other option" category.

They post everything linked to the club - up to you if you think the actual source is credible. A Bola is a no dice from me, in any case.

Alot of his standout skills which he shows consistently are defensive.
His attacking threat is there but i dont see consistent behavior. It seems unpredictable and he’s pushing his limits. Which suggests he’s being allowed to show his youthful energy. I don’t think thats great long term - it doesnt work in a system and leads to injury or cards.

That’s just an assessment watching various highlights and game highlights.
I could be wrong.

How is Udogie doing in the PL? Where is he best suited?
I’d guess they have overlaping profiles; italian development, big, strong, fast.

This guy is so good on the ball, and also much better at covering the chanel between the LCB and LWB than Licha.

Would be a great get.

Everyone says we should be prioritising a LWB and CF, however what the Newcastle game demonstrated is that we have zero depth in midfield, I guess if the deal is right and we pay the bulk in the summer, this could make perfect sense, Amorim obviously knows him well, he stared out playing CM and DM before moving into the CB position, he also has played LB, so maybe the idea is he can cover several positions and should not just be viewed as a signing for CB, 'i have always wondered about Martinez as a DM as well, I know he has played there before coming to Utd could also be another option.

The moons in their tweets are an indicator of reliability, it’s up to you to believe it or not. They’re one of the better aggregators out there:

Dorgu is fast, can dribble and has finished chances well to score goals for club and country. Usually players who are able to do those things and are currently doing those things carry on playing an attacking role. He can obviously play fullback and having played both roles is a great option for wingback.

Playing CB is often a very different role to what he's usually playing, where concentration, being alert and active after periods of not doing much is quite important. And patient accurate passing to play out from the back. I dont think these are his strengths, nor marking and heading.

I think he is more a LB or left of a back three (with development). I dont believe he would suit a conventional role in a central 2 man defence.
I havent seen enough of him to speak of his attacking ability, but the little i have seen it didnt look like the level or skillset for the pinacle, even with development.

But happy to debate it and be proven wrong. Many people just assess based on profile rather than observing the player.
Case in point Osimhen over Gyokeres - because heck we cant sign a guy from coventry over a guy who won serie a.

Maybe i see Dorgu’s path going the same way as Rojo.

We could use a LCB but for me it’s 7th or 8th priority. I recognise I am not Amorim and he probably knows better than I do.

First 3 priorities - LWB, Striker, CM starter
Next 3 priorities - AM, CM backup, RWB
Next 3 - LCB, GK backup, AM backup

Now, if Amorim thinks that Dalot and Maz are the long term Wing backs for him, then the LCB may become more important as we only have 4 CB options in the summer.

Clearly sporting are cashing in and the guy is available at a sensible price for his quality.

Its a no brainer signing.

Just because we buy a CB early in the window, does not mean we wont address LWB and ST. Especially when the CB is a loan to buy and wont affect this years FFP too much anyway.

We are conceding goals left right and centre so it makes sense that we are looking for improvements.

No chance they loan him this month. We’d have to find the money for him.

It’s a case of „if an opportunity presents itself”. Left footed, can play two positions, knows Amorims system, decent price, good age profile. Looks like will be sold this window anyway.
