Gonçalo Guedes

The new Ronaldo? Who writes this stuff? He plays nothing like him. He's a very interesting prospect (already a portuguese international) but the Ronaldo comparison makes no sense. Apparently plenty of top clubs are following (last year it was reported Bayern´s interest) and he´s having a good season but it´s too early (and he´s too young) for this type of move.

What kind of player is he?

Well as he's Portuguese he has to be either the next Ronaldo, Nani, Moutinho, Rui Costa, Eusebio...

Gonçalo Guedes is mostly a LW but he can play also as RW and as a number 10. I prefer to see him behind the striker in a supporting role. He got good technic and decent pace. He got a good right foot and shot. He has been putting good numbers in the league and Champions League. He has about 4 goals and 4 assists which for a 19 year is decent production. He´s not the typical portuguese winger, which dribbles alot and makes use of his technic, he´s a more objective player, with good positioning and decent finishing level, who likes to do short pass combinations rather than going 1 vs 1.
His negative points are his reception of the ball where he sometimes loses valuable time and is error prone and his decision making. He also needs to bulk up to be stronger physically and gain more resistance. Like i said in a previous post, it´s too early for him to move, he´s too young and he hasn´t shown enough to warrant a move to a big club. He should stay at Benfica and evolve in the next two years.

This is so November. Up-to-date people ask questions about Renato Sanches.

Just read on Viasat sport's website (they broadcast the PL in sweden) that according to reports from Portugal (A Bola) we're very close to signing this kid. Maybe the Portuguese Caftards can shed some more light on the news.

Quick twitter search suggests that the news are coming from noted BS merchants calciomercato who quote A Bola, but I can't find anything on A Bola's website. Caveat: I don't speak portuguese, but the site's search function brought up a number of articles, but the most recent ones don't mention United at all.

His latest muppet vid.

Not exactly thrilling stuff, he looks strong but not all that fast or skillful.

If you read Benfica´s forum, some claim he is not good enough yet to claim a regular spot on this Benfica team. Others want him benched for Carcela. I´m not saying he won´t turn into an excellent footballer but at the moment it´s too soon for him to move. He hasn´t established himself in portuguese football and he definitely needs more playing time to evolve.

Agreed with this. Buying him now would be an odd thing to do when the kid needs to play first team football and develop his skills. Something he won't get at United.

He's a wide player isn't he? The same position Mourinho admitted we are overloaded in a matter of days ago.

Fully expect he signs a new contract in a week.

He looks poor in those videos posted. Do not want.

In a Premier League where West Brom pay £10M for Livermore it could be any mid table club putting up that fee for him, maybe Everton since they didn't get Memphis.

Wouldn't believe the Portuguese press if they told me, the sky was blue.

I think it has passed some time since i made that post and he has evolved but he still isn't a definite starter for Benfica. I don't think he is an european big club player but who knows perhaps he can evolve dramatically like Bernardo Silva. I think he's a Valência/Everton level type of player.

Im going against the grain here as alot of posters are knocking him, and this is an incredibly lazy comparison but he really looks like Ronaldo did when he was at Sporting. He looks more like a young Ronaldo(style wise) than Memphis ever did.

He is tall and lanky, with blistering pace and great close control. He also seems to have the same immaturity in his play that a young Ronaldo did as he often 'over-dribbles' in that video when the best option is to pass.

Few players are are driven and committed enough to improving their games as Ronaldo, but if Guedes works hard on the training ground and continues to get playing time, he could be a really special player.

Don't think he's like young Ronaldo at all. Ronaldo was a widely lauded player even at Youth level. He quickly became a portuguese international as well thanks to his potencial and quality. Gonçalo Guedes isn't at that level. He can be an useful player but i don't think he will be a world beater. Bernardo Silva can be a different story though

A young attacker who can play across the front three but will need consistent gametime to do so is exactly what we don't need. Sounds like bollocks if there's any link to us.

Surely we don't need him, we have enough quality in the wide areas.

I worry about these signings now because I genuinely can't see youngsters given enough leeway to have a run of games in the team.

If anyone has an insight on Portuguese players then it would be Mourinho, i have full confidence on his ability to pick players from that league.

I don't know if we're genuinely interested in Guedes but I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign someone in attack to help with converting more of our chances.

It makes sense. Portuguese papers always link United to their players when they want to sell as everyone knows we have money. Lindelof and Semedo are Benfica players we probably do have interest in. They likely aren't adverse to selling Lindelof now to get as much as possible (release clause available in the summer), but if we look at the Semedo rumours, all the Portuguese press have said that we are iinterested but Benfica won't sell this window. So the papers there are clearly just Benfica's mouthpieces.

Any rumour linking us to a Benfica player should be discarded instantly in the future.:D
