Harry Redknapp admits Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.

Gomes has endured a mixed career at White Hart Lane since his 2008 arrival from PSV Eindhoven and was linked with a return to the Dutch club at the end of last season.

Spurs boss Redknapp has previously kept faith with Gomes and the 30-year-old started the first game of the season against Hearts in the Europa League.

However, Redknapp has used summer signing Brad Friedel in the Premier League and Gomes has not even been on the bench for the last two games.

Redknapp acknowledged Gomes is not happy at being left out and is prepared to let the keeper move on when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

"He's not happy and he's eyeing a January move," said Redknapp. "If the chance comes for him to play elsewhere, I'm sure he'll take it.

"I've not bombed out Gomes and made him No.3 keeper but we decided Carlo Cudicini would be better on the bench.

"Gomes has trained hard but Friedel is fantastic. If ever there was a man who didn't deserve those two beatings by Manchester United and Manchester City, it was him."

I remember Glaston arguing that Gomes was class. It was typical Glaston against the whole world type of argument.

I wonder if he still rates Gomes this much higher than Friedel?

A 38 year-old in preference to the 28 year-old Gomes? Nah, not for me. Friedel is coming to the close of his career and I'd guess will be supplanted at Villa as first choice GK next year by Guzan.

Gomes is much improved this season after his shaky start in the first half of last season and is currently on a run of 5 clean sheets in a row.

Turns out that even at 40 he's still better than Gomes.

Doesn't say a lot about his character when he's not prepared to fight a 40yr old for his place.

A 40 year old who simply never misses games (current PL record holder for consecutive games) and shows no signs of decline having just signed a 2 year contract?

The way Friedel rolls, it's highly unlikely Gomes will see much PL action in the next 2 years however hard he fights - I'd want a move if I was Gomes too.

Something about this proving just how amazing the Spurs squad is.....blahhhhh.

Gomes would make a fantastic keeper if he could mentally stay in the game. He's made some beautiful saves, world class ones, but then he loses concentration and drops the ball into the back of the net.

Friedel might not be as reflexive as he used to be, but he's still extremely solid and his capacity to stay in the game mentally is the difference.

Sad. Hopefully he'll stay in the Premier League, he's great fun.

I always wanted United to sign Friedel... but that was before we signed VDS

The season before last he was brilliant. and I don't mean "sometimes brilliant, sometimes shit", he just had a very, very good season. They wouldn't have qualified for the Champions League without him. People sometimes make it sound like he's been terrible ever since he joined Tottenham, that's just not true. He was also great for PSV.

Saying that last season was a bit of a nightmare for him and Friedel has made a decent start to his Tottenham career so this is hardly surprising.

Those quotes from Harry are made-up - he didn't once say '...sit down with the Chairman'. ;)

....
I wouldn't put it quite so strongly myself, but essentially you are not too wide of the mark here.

At the moment Friedel will has the the No. 1 spot and will probably keep it unless he starts messing up, but there really isn't a great difference overall between the two keepers.

As someone else has said, Friedel concentrates better and makes fewer mistakes, but Gomes is capable of making saves that Friedel wouldn't.
