This is my favourite game of all time and I'm sure there's plenty of lovers on here. Feel free to discuss it's brilliance.

I know a "remake" is coming out, but has anyone played the original online?

GoldenEye Online - Play N64 GoldenEye Online - N64 Emulator

More detail in the above link but it explains how to get the emulator and then, a bit like you would on XBox Live, play head to head against other users. There's also places that sell a USB plugin so you can use your N64 controller on the PC, which makes me wet.

Anyone tried this for GoldenEye or any other retro game?

Great game. Perfect Dark was even better multiplayer.

Besides graphics and speed, the ability to play AI in 'multi-player', as well as choose weapon sets was a big plus. But Perfect Dark never had that extra magic that GoldenEye had, despite on a technical level probably being a better game.

I was the fecking nuts at GoldenEye, pretty damn good at PD too.

PD just edges the multiplayer because of the weapons. Hiding in a corner and setting up a laptop gun to protect you while you use the farsight to pick people off. So fun.

I disagree, the magic was even more there in PD. I had a pretty close group and all we played was Goldeneye, but it wasn't touched again when PD came out (and No Mercy for the royal rumble. Good times )

We played PD a hell of a lot, but then found after a year or two we went back to GoldenEye. The Bond licence, the multi levels, the guns, the characters, it just had something about it. The variance on PD was far greater though, as mentioned.

No Mercy was fantastic. I have the menu music ("Socko...") in my head now as a result! Thanks!

I loved and hated the Farsight in equal measure. It's like a quick free kick on the edge of the penalty area - if you pull it off you love it, if it happens to you it's just a damned, dirty injustice.

Nothing beats a fly-by-wire rocket up the arse of someone hiding in a vent shaft in PD. If you pulled that off, you knew you were a master! I always played with auto-aim off too, at that low fps I'm convinced all that training the hard way back then made me a much better fps gamer today ;)

Brilliant game, only annoying thing about it was the Golden Gun

GoldenEye was good, but nothing beats Perfect Dark on multiplayer.

FistSim - Possibly the most annoying character in any computer game, ever.

The blurry vision was extremely annoying. Particularly when you regenerate and it's still there.

A mate of mine still gets called Meat Sim.

i thought multiplayer in GE was better - more tactical; if you were a better player it you could survive with any gun. In PD I felt the guns were overpowered.

The amount of times I found myself scurrying backwards down a corridoor, in utter panick as Fist sim charged towards me, only for him to catch up and punch my screen into a blur before I could kill him. Or worse when he'd just emerge round the corner directly in front of you and immediately punch you in the face...it was infuriating. Though funny when it happened to someone else.

I used to love it when you'd get those remote detination/proximity mines, and they'd end up scattered everywhere around the level, so when you set yours off, it'd lliterally chain reaction around the entire level and kill nearly everyone. It used to annoy my brother so much he'd refuse to play unless they weren't on the list of available weapns.

I used to love playing with just fists and sticky mines. Bloody brilliant!

I loved Golden Eye and I will probably pick it up for the wii, however Perfect Dark was better.

I used to love the laptop gun and the mines on PD.
The single player level where the helicopter is shooting at you as you're trying to run down the corridor was awesome.

The first level?

I always like the chicago streets one, where you have to set up the bomb at the doorway for the next level exit. Class, though I always forgot which one I'd done and end up panicking

I reckon I spent about half of my final year at uni doing just that - I even bought an N64 off ebay a couple of years ago just so I could play Perfect Dark again.

And noodle, I agree, fecking Fist Sim

You're right, I think it was the first level. At the time, I'd not seen anything like it and I thought it was amazing.

Was that Bomb level where you were in a cul-de-sac/loading bay area?
I think I remember it if that's the case?

This thread has made me regret selling my N64. I want to play Goldeneye, PD, DKR and ISS64 again now.

project 64 is extremely close to the real thing with a xbox 360 controller

This is shocking news.
I would be appalled if anybody new of a mac emulator and a site which supplied roms.

I have just been looking on Ebay at N64's. Nostalgia is a bastard.

I DL'ed a GoldenEye mod on steam a while back. It was shite. I also sold my N64 and Snes with a feck load of games only two weeks ago for about £80. None of the connections work with my tv and I couldn't be arsed to feck about with leads and converters etc.

There was always one dick who would pick Oddjob.

sixtyforce is what you want for the mac

You should download the trial version at least (it lets you play the 1st couple of missions and no multiplayer), the music and sound effects really shoved my down memory lane!

It would mean buying an xbox and signing up for live.

Thanks, I got outbid on Ebay for an N64 today. It would have been my third impulse purchase of the month.

Remember when Boris ran off in that level near the end of the game? I always used to follow him around to see where he went and/or kill him. Good times.

I've just got the Wii version of this game. Any online players out there?

PM me for friend codes if you're interested.
