I haven't watched the match against Leeds yet but from the comment I heard it seems we played well and dominated the match in the first half, only we couldn't turn our domination and poession into goals once more. As Fergie said after the match that we seems have a difficulty to score a goal at the moment.
Starting from our lost against Bolton there are nearly over ten different kinds of "reasons" why we went wrong, such as the formation, tactics, spirit, "will to win", etc. But finally it becomes clear that our injury crisis and lack of cutting edge up front are the main problems we're facing now, and these two problems can just be concluded into one: our depth of squad is in urgent need to strengthen.
Why we can't cope with the injury problem we have while Arsenal can won the league and started the new season so well without their best two attacking midfielders? Why we have no choice but to keep on using the players who has been ineffective for so long (Veron, Giggs, Ruud, etc.)? With the kind of money we spent in these 15 months (near 90m!) we should have build a squad that can dominate, but instead we just keep on breaking the transfer record with our result still in free falling. Now we can't beat the teams with one-tenth transfer budget of us. Just as I said last week in the transfer forum, our transfer policy has got all wrong and Fergie is beaten by Wenger and Houllier soundly in the transfer market. The major mistakes we made are:
1. We waste hugh money on the golden horse which looks good but can't run (Veron). Worse still, since he is so expensive Fergie find it difficult to drop him or sell him.
2. We opt to sign a youngster from South America and expect him can be an immediate replacement of Cole (Forlan).
3. The players departed are more than the players come. Worse still, some departed players are very versatile and can cover a lot of positions (such as Johnsen and Irwin), while the new players can't.
4. We buy players with a hugely inflated price. We can't get Rio when he was 17, and we failed again when he was in Westham, therefore we must spend all our transfer budget in a year to get him now.
I read from transfer forum that many people still think we should spend another 25-30m to get Ronaldinho. Please wake up: We don't need to buy golded horses anymore. Breaking transfer record year after year don't bring you success. A building which is hugh at the top but weak in the base will fall down easily. We may not win anything this season, but we still need to change our policy and go back to strengthen the base of our squad asap, in order to build a successful team again for the future.
