2 of our own in the top 10 on the Golden Boy Benchmark Index for this year which is fantastic to see and well deserved.

Land Neves and Yoro now this summer and we'll have 4 of the 10 brightest sparks in Europe!

i’m reporting this thread to trading standards.

So the player with the highest index wins the award or do they still have voters?

It's Savio or Mainoo for me, but we know who's gonna win it, right?

It should be Garnacho, he won a trophy (being key in the final) and has twice the amount of goals of Yamal.

I fear Barcelona marketing machine will steal it from our boy.

Whilst I detest Barca, Yamal is three years younger than Garnacho.

Not sure why Lewis and Pavlovic (maybe Cubarsi too) are there, they barely played. I'm sure there are other youngsters who have contributed more to their team and are more deserving of the those spots.

Is this a metric published on a yearly basis? If so, when was the last time we had two nominated in a single year? Guessing the last one was Greenwood (and who before that?).

I've always thought this awarded was a bit condescending.

"Boy" for grown ass men over 18 is weird.

Same as YPOTY award in the PL. The age limit is too much. Agree that this is even worse though.

Should be Yamal, to be as good as he is at 16 is ridiculous.

The age limit is too high but it's more the name of this one I find jarring.

"Young player" for a 21 year old is fine but "boy"? Nah, that should be an under 16 award.

That list is tricked, only made for "unproven" players. If looking for the real very best U21 the following should on that list:

Bellingham
Wirtz
Camavinga
Gavi
Pedri
Xavi Simons
Musiala
Nico Williams

I think you can only be in it once and Bellingham for instance won it last year.

EDIT you can only win it once, that's why Bellingham is not there. Also you have to under 21 so that rules out Wirtz, Camavinga, Pedri, Simons, Musiala and Williams and Gavi has only played a few times this season as he's been injured.

Isn't "golden boy" just a common English expression for someone who is successful at a young age?

I don’t know about the rest, but if you look at the full list of 100 players on their website - Gavi is there on page 2 or 3.

How dare we assume their gender.

Golden footballer.

For those that don't like gold as its a lust for money and greed? Silver footballer.

which under 16 boys have you been keeping an eye on?

Men in the legal sense, but lets be honest...we all know that's not true. There's still significant physical and psychological differences between a 21 year old and lets say...a 28 year old.

There's physical and psychological differences between a 28 year old and an 88 year old. They're still men.

It just feels silly to call a 21 year old a boy. Don't even get me started on the term "starboy"!

It's always been used sarcastically whenever I've heard it in real life. "Oh of course Duffer got the promotion, he's the bosses golden boy".
Is that actually the case? I thought it was a bit common, I doubt the marketing team at FIFA or whatever ever thought about it sarcastically.

Wasn't Anderson a prestigious holder of this award? (I miss the drooling smiley)

I do think it warrants a change, aswell as the YPOTY award age. Football is full of talents who are playing full time football at the age of 18.

Why is it a top 100? Players like Forbes and Hlynsson arent even rated in the Dutch league.

Make it a top 20, all the others are irrelevant.

I can't image whoever came up with this award's name at FIFA grew up in the UK.

If you started a new job in England and someone described a colleague like "that's Joe, he's the golden boy", it's not a 100% positive thing to say.

Even woman my age get referred to as girls. It's stupid for both men and women.

Pavlovic was a starter in the second half of the season and as of now likely ended Kimmich's career as a midfielder for Bayern and Germany. It's absolutely reasonable to include him.

its hard to split them but i will vote Garnacho simply because he completed a whole season. The problem here for the Utd lads is that they are so closely matched that our fans will split the vote and Yamal will end up winning.

That said, i see Kobbie is surging ahead at 20%, Garnacho on 9% and Lamal on 6%, maybe time to get on the Kobbie train.
