Sorry if this has already been here, but I think Man Utd are in desperate need for a goalkeeper! Barthez just doesn't cut it. He hasn't done much of anything to deserve a place in the United team. All I've heard is maybe Rustu Recber could come. Anybody heard anything?

Our keeper situation will seem like much less of a problem with Rio and Larry playing infront of Fab.

But we still need someone who can keep the ball out of the net.

So you think he's good? I can't remember the last time he made a spectacular save. He just makes the 'routine saves' most of the time, never doing anything spectacular ... And now and then, he screws up the easy ones, like against Arsenal, liverpool, Deportivo ...

He had a bad year last year. Hopefully he will rebound and regain his confidence with Rio playing in front of him.

But even in his first season, he didn't do much of anything. Stam kept the defence tight. I don't think Barthez has done enough to deserve a place in United's starting lineup.

Yes..we won the league two years ago with Stam, playing infront of Fab. Expect similar results with Rio.

Anyone YOU would prefer? - and make it someone United have a chance of getting...

I still have confidence that united will win the treble. But it would be a lot easier if we had someone competent in goal.
As for who I'd like to see, I like Toldo ... But we won't get him. The only keeper I've heard linked with united lately is Recber, who would be an improvement.

Why be concerned about the keeper if you're confident we'll win the treble.

Because he's a weaklink. We can still do it with him in goal, but we need to have a strong squad in all areas of the field.

By the time Stam was back from injury the title was pretty much in our hands, so give the others some credit.

Not that Barthez is my cup of tea, but it seems that we are stuck with him for another season at least...

Was he a weak link when he won the World Cup, Euro2000 etc ? He seemed world class then.

He's a goalie not a gymnastic, and half of his blunders started by trying to do something spectacular...

Yeah... if he can settle down and do what he's good at there are few better around. You rarely see him trying to juggle the ball when playing for France.
Let's face it, we were spoilt rotten with Schmeichel, but Barthez is a big improvement on Bosnich.

he was pure class in first season, Woody - more of that would be quite all right

But he couldn't do anything with the ones that did go on target. And he doesn't just make mistakes when he's trying to be acrobatic. How about the Newcastle game at St. James's Park? Remember Lee's goal? How about the first blunder vs. Arsenal last season? Carelessness.
