Should we give Barthez a rest in Chelsea match? SAF might play Caroll or Ricardo in front of goal. Who should play as goalkeeper role in Chelsea match based on the current form?

Carrol Carrol Carrol Carrol

I have a feeling Ricardo will quit United at the end of this season.

Doesn't look like he'll settle for 3rd choice.

He's not third choice though is he, he's second choice at the moment.

What is the basis of the formation of that opinion?

Heres the thinking, Ricardo is what 31 or something? Carroll is about 24? Ricardo hasnt set the world on fire in his time here, he will never displace Barthez in his time here so he is destained for a life in the reserves.

Carroll on the other hand is a young talented keeper who will be learning from training with Barthez but will never get a game bcoz Ricardo is around wasting space and playing in the reserves while god knows what Carroll does, how long is he gonna put up with that for? So we lose him and are stuck with 2 older guys and no logical replacement when Barthez goes.

On top of that Carroll was excellent in the few games Barthez was out.

carrol better than Ricardo? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

If you've seen Carrol, you'll know that he's average at best...... and i doubt he has the talent to be anyting better.

ricardo, on the other hand has looked impressive.

However, Fab's our best and he's proved it. <img src="graemlins/snowman.gif" border="0" alt="[Snowman]" />

Carroll should play Worthington games, Ricardo the FA Cup and some CL games, and cover for Barthez when he gets injured. Carroll's record I've shown a couple of times on here to be better than average, its actually very good and quite comparable with Barthez's at his best. He isn't flamboyant, but I think there's a certain virtue to not being so, particularly if flamboyance becomes wild eccentricity.

In terms of the long-term future it would be hoped that Steele, England's U19's (I think) keeper, will develop into a great first team keeper.
