During the last few weeks furious debate has been raging amongst United fans and others as to what's happening at OT. Some opinion has been critical and even our esteemed manager has not escaped the wrath of some of us. Others have been steadfastly supportive, sometimes to the annoyance of those who prefer a more analytical approach to life including of course footballing matters. I can well understand the bewilderment amongst some younger supporters who perhaps have never experienced a hiatus of this magnitude, the first in over a decade.

Whatever has been said, I think there is little doubt that Fergie in particular has been stung by some of the critical remarks. Some of the players may have been also, I don't know. I think it's important for the fans to able to voice their opinions, whatever they may be,through forums such as this one and long may that continue. If crticism has a positive effect then it will have served a dual purpose and not just simply a release of individual frustrations.

We are now entering what can only be described as a crucial period of the season. In the next few weeks or so we shall be facing some of the best opposition that this country and Europe has to offer. Whether or not Fergie retires at the end of the season and whether or not he stays to build a new side will continue to be hotly debated in the future. In the meantime we have to ensure we are fully behind the team in what are going to be, given the circumstances of our injury problems, quite daunting challenges. We have great players of international quality led by a great man, who despite the fact that some may feel his powers are on the wane, is all the same a person not to be underestimated. Above all we have the tradition of Manchester United which has made this Club without doubt the greatest name in football. It's not difficult to remember why we became supporters in the first place is it ?

Whatever happens, the manager is not going to retire now and neither will he be sacked as some have suggested. It's unlikely that any of the current squad will leave before the summer although there might be an addition or two in January with a bit of luck.

So go for it United, whatever has been said we're right behind you now.
