Gmail banned?

gmail has been added to the list of banned e-mail addresses for new registrations. What's the problem with it if you are already registered?

I try changing my registered address to my gmail one and it says its banned. I've never used it to send the mods pranks or nuffink.

hotmail, yahoo, msn, gmail, lycos, etc were all shut out about 6 months back to make it more difficult for bannees to keep yoyoing.

PM us the address Gazza and I'll try and do it from the admin control board, it's not supposed to be an inconvenience to existing members, merely a barrier for the complete and utter members we also seem to attract here.

Does your ISP not always at least give you one email? They have to, to contact you etc

But what if a new poster only has a free e-mail address?
They should get a real one. The vast majority of WUMs we get use free e-mail accounts to register, by blocking them we make it harder to get in repeatedly. Genuine posters shouldn't be afraid to use a real e-mail address rather than the more anonymous free services.

If a free account is really all that a genuine poster has access to then they can always e-mail Niall and ask to be allowed in. He has doen this a couple of times to my knowledge.

Hmm. I suppose that's fair enough, then.
