Glazers/Manchester United has royally screwed over loyal season tickets owners - because of pure GREED

The bottom of the bottom has been reached.

Manchester United had fecked over loyal season ticket holders of the womens teams who had season tickets since 2018 when the team was founded.

With the upcoming FA cup final against Chelsea the club decided it was a good idea to sell season tickets for next season and include tickets to the FA-cup final in the package.

That would perhaps have been OK if it was not for the fact that ANYONE could buy season tickets for next season and current season ticket holders had no pre-sale to renew their places.

This means people who have supported the womens team when they were in the 2nd division now have been kicked out of the stands where they have been located together for 5 years, being replaced by new fans who wanted tickets to the FA-cup final and might not even show at Leigh Sports Village next season.

IMO this is greed at another level, or sheer incompetence at its worst! How can this happen?

And all of this for season tickets for 60£ for adults? The club has chosen to risk losing and upsetting loyal long standing supporters, its baffling.

There should always a period for current season ticket holders to re-new their seats before the tickets is being made available to new fans.

Surely this is how it works for the mens team, why is the women team ran like amateurs?

The fans of the womens team should be rewarded for making it to Leighs and wasting endless of time due to travel and traffic jams etc, not shit on by the club like this! This stand is also the stand where we actually have had active chants etc, so its vital to keep that dynamic intact!

I have put this in the main forum because its related to Glazers greed! Its so shambolic it deserves more attention. @jojojo

I really dont understand why they wouldnt hold a pre sale for season ticket holders? Surely Glazers dont care where the money comes from so I dont see how this benefits them from a financial view.
If anything this seems more like gross incompetence?

Joins a long list of disgraceful ticketing policies by United, not surprising unfortunately.

Not too dissimilar to the cup season tickets for the men’s team. Can go to all the cup games but the final, nah sorry.

United have the worst ticketing policy in the league and have no system apart from European aways where loyalty is rewarded.

They offer people to get tickets to the FA-final Vs Chelsea if they buy season tickets for next season. Meaning the Glazers can cash in on season tickets for next season and possible sell out Leigh Sports village season tickets (the sections was never sold out before) - with many of the people buying season tickets not even showing up next season! And also with current season ticket holders losing their places to 1 game fans who wants to see the FA-cup final!

it means Glazers gets maximum revenue ASAP - and that long time supporters of the womens team lose out BIG TIME!

What's greedy about it??

Struggling to understand why this is a bad move, granted I can comprehend why existing holders of season tickets might be a little put out, but opening the game up to anyone is a good thing overall surely?

Why would someone who has brought a season ticket not use it?

My big issue with the men's game is the closed nature of season tickets, no matter what club you support.
Perhaps a limited number of pre sale season tickets could have been made available however.

Not to be picky but I absolutely hate how similar the title of this thread is to the takeover thread

I get that. What I am wondering is why they didnt do a presale prior to this. This way they would get the money from the usual season ticket holders AND money from the people who just want the final.

Pimping out the season tickets to fans that might only care about the FA-cup final and wont have the possibility or intention to making the long trip to Leigh next season is greedy in my eyes for sure. If they had emailed all current season ticket holders and said you have 5 days to renew your tickets for next season - before we give anyone FA-cup final tickets if they buy season tickets for next season, that would have been fine.

Season tickets have been open for fans every season and they have never sold out before - the only reason they are sold is because people got free tickets to the finals if the bought season tickets.

You could also argue the season tickets are so cheap Glazers wont care about that money, but if thats the case they still royally fecked over the fans who have supported the team and made it what it is today, which is inexcusable!

Still, Glazers counts every penny, you know it!

There are 31 words in total in both titles and only one of those words appear in both titles. How on earth are they similar?

Did the club not email/get in contact with you with a renewal process before 5th May?

I thought I saw updates explaining that was happening as prices had gone up etc?

Could people buy FA cup tickets alone, as in without a season ticket before they were sold out?

Already this topic reads as people who don’t go to football regularly telling people who do there wrong

Part of going to the football is the community and friends you make within the vicinity of your seat, so location is huge for a start especially when you are a few years in.

Women’s season tickets are relatively inexpensive so there will be plenty of people willing to take the hit just to go to one game.

United have a long history of dreadful ticketing policies.

Poster has every right to be raging.

This isnt much to do with the Glazers or greed (the amount of money involved here is tiny in the grand scheme of MUFC) , but sounds like shambolic incompetence from the ticket office

At Old Trafford a current season ticket holder always has the chance to renew their seat before it becomes available to new fans - has this happened in previous seasons at LSV or have Women's STs always been sold like this?
Have the fans affected always had the same seats?

I guess this is down to the rapid rise in demand for the Women's tickets and the FA Cup Final

I would suggest that those affected need to contact MUST who would speak to the ticket office about it

Visually similar enough to press the wrong thread title. You don’t actually read the title every time do you?

Anyone keeping the Glazer rats and their flock can feck off with them

Season tickets for the women's team were for West stand North or West stand South - seat numbers within blocks aren't allocated, which is great because it lets fans join up naturally with each other.

My tickets were always in West/South and that's where I was expecting to renew. The renewals email gave a renewal date - we renewed a week before the deadline, but the only tickets on offer were for West/North. Season ticket holders who renewed closer to the deadline were only offered South stand as West stand was completely sold out.

The thing is a lot of season ticket holders in West stand had been there since we were in the championship. A lot of connections had been formed. In particular, West/South was the place where a lot of the songs started and a lot of fans who ended up going home and away used to be located.

I never realised it was unallocated seating at Leigh Sports Village, that now explains how this situation has arisen - I've only ever been for the odd game a season

I guess it was never an issue in the past as Women's STs didn't sell out but now demand is rising

Sad to hear about long term groups being split, the solution is for the club to allocate seats. Best done next summer when fans can apply together in groups

If demand rises enough then more matches can be played at Old Trafford too

I don't agree at all on the seat allocation thing. The blocks work fine because they let people find their own groups. The singers were able to join up together. Kids could meet up and chat. Shade dwellers could sit in the shade. Late arrivals had fewer choices, but that's what you'd expect.

It reminded me a lot of when I was a kid and you got the same mixing and choosing your group stuff, because we were standing on the terraces.

Giving existing season ticket holders first choice to "stay in your block" or "choose your block" seems obvious. It's what had been happening for the past four years.

If they'd warned the existing ticket holders that the renewal deadline had effectively changed, people would have accepted it more easily - they didn't even do that. The first people knew about it was when they logged in and realised the ticket system wasn't really offering a renew their ticket option - just a buy a ticket one.

The club will be the first ones to moan when the atmosphere isn't as good because the singing groups have been split up or when there are a lot of empty spaces because they only wanted to go to Wembley.

If that's what had happened before then yes they should have done the same again

I get what you are saying about a free flow system and still at away games nowadays it's generally accepted that fans sit/stand anywhere eventhough there is officially an allocated seat.
But if fans want to sit in groups then it's only allocated seating that guarantees that.

You should contact MUST about this they will take it up

You've completely missed the point here. People have been able to spend ££60 ('season ticket' which they will likely never use, plus the £15 matchday ticket) to attend a final at Wembley, at the cost of actual match-going supporters being unable to buy their renewal.

Your response comes across as a little ignorant to the size of MU Women: the home game last week had 6k supporters, there are games with 20k+ fans at OT and we're currently top of the women's PL. The demand is already there but the club have completely fecked the regulars to give others a day out.

Also, there was a sale afterwards for normal MU members so they didn't need to do that 'future ST holder' thing.

Finally, on the men's STs, it's really not that hard to get one. Just call up regularly and pay when one is available.

I get why we want the Glazers out. I don't get why people just make sht up. Is it actually necessary? I'm pretty sure Avram and Joel weren't sitting in their jet and Avram had an enlightened "Hey Joe I've come up with a fkn brilliant idea! Lets fk over women's team fans and make some extra cash for that Vegas trip coming up."

I don't think it's just about money though I'm sure there's an element of "selling up" going into the thinking.

It's mostly about forgetting that the regulars actually matter when it comes to trying to build the support - the team is in its infancy really and the core fan base is still developing.

We got a massive boost from the Euros but that still has only really given us big crowds at the biggest matches - Liverpool, City, Arsenal etc. Matches like Durham in the cup and the midweek games still fall back to the regulars - the couple of thousands who've been around for longer.

It's great that whole families can attend games and that we've got kids at games, but that can only be part of the story. The home and away, rain or shine, top of the League or struggling, three Lionesses in the lineup or none, fans have to feel like they belong there. They're part of what builds the atmosphere and they are literally the fallback crowd for that wet midweek match against some unglamorous opposition.

I think the complaints are already in through MUST and other routes.

One frustration is that the women's fan group thought it had good links to the club. They'd successfully lobbied the club to ask for ticket allocations to away games. They'd arranged things like decorating the standing area at LSV with flags and then with the opening of the standing area for big games.

That's why they were so shocked when this happened. It came with no warning and by the time anyone realised what was happening it was described as too late.

I admit when I got moved, I assumed I'd missed an email inviting me to choose the "singing area" or whatever. It was only later when I started seeing complaints on Twitter that I saw that the ticketing system hadn't even tried to prioritise renewals.

I am normally a peaceful individual but I want to give the persons responsible for his a stern browbeating....just being honest. Its a disgrace! Unbelievable that they stabbed their most passionate fans in the back!

Yes it's a clear feck up from the ticket office, not deliberate or greed etc but just incompetence

difficult to fix it at this point for the coming season since the tickets are already sold - hopefully they can come up with a solution for next season and offer discount for those affected this season to put things right

You are assuming that people who buy a season ticket are only doing so to buy an FA cup final ticket, why?
Why wouldn't it be that people are genuinely interested in watching United Women's regularly?

So was there was a renewal option for existing holders beginning of April running til may?

Could people buy cup final tickets before the sell out individually?

I get that regulars probably feel resentment towards this.

United's ticketing system has been poor for years, but the fact it's filtered through to the women's team is no surprise.

Yeah, from what I know, renewals were open already (with no fixed deadline like the men's, as it isn't necessary) but only when FA Cup Final tickets were released to ST holders (and then Men's ST holders & general MU members 2-3 days later) was there a flurry of unexpected sales, which gave early access to FA Cup Final tickets.

Typical United - I was telling a Liverpool fan at work yesterday, they're the worst 'organisation' I've ever had to deal with.

the marketing team can sell it as new fan uptake for new sponsorship deals and increased revenues streams into the clubs. there are no downsides.

fans nowadays, thinking football is about them and their enjoyment, and not an excel spreadsheet somewhere in a finance department. disgusting behaviour.

Just to be clear on this point: there was no renewal option for current season ticket holders. All season tickets were sold on a first come first served basis. Existing holders weren’t given any priority to keep their seats for next season. Imagine if that happened at Old Trafford? It would be absolute chaos!

Me and a family member I go with have been affected by this. We’ve had season tickets since 2019 in the West stand. As others have said, we know a lot of people in the West stand, and now we have to move to the South stand. I didn’t receive any emails from the club until last week, telling me that West stand was sold out so I didn’t even know about this until it was too late.

It’s great that the club are making efforts to get more people invested in the women’s team, but there was no reason why that should be done at the expense of existing fans. The fact that they didn’t give any priority to current season ticket holders as well as the lack of communication from the club is the reason why many fans, myself included, are pissed off about this. It’s poor all round, but not surprising from United.

Totally agree with the OP. Incompetence trickles down from the top. Glazers are obviously clueless about fan culture.

Strange because this was telegraphed by the club at the end of March:

Current season-ticket holders have been informed that they have until 18:00 BST on Friday 5 May to renew for next season.

The Season Ticket renewal process will begin immediately with supporters receiving a personalised email explaining any relevant changes and what it means for them.

Its on the website too and has been since 31at March, so not sure what was missed here for you.

Maybe the Glazers blocked everyones internet so they couldn’t see the messages or read the website.

Just the kind of thing they would do, Greedy Parasites.

Yeah, I’ve seen that on the website. When I spoke with the ticket office, they confirmed there wasn’t actually a renewal option in place. You just had to buy the tickets in the section you wanted as if you were buying a new season ticket, and this was available to everyone from the start, whether or not you were an existing ticket holder. Again, poor communication from the club but that’s nothing new.

Indeed, that is one thing the club has never been great on, pre and during Glazer reign.

Anyhow, I hope it's sorted to the best that it can be for you,
does sound like a proper hassle that probably didn't need to happen.

We had until the 5th to renew our season tickets - is what we thought it meant. It didn't - people applied before the deadline and didn't get offered "their" tickets in their current part of the ground for renewal. They just got offered tickets in whatever section they were currently selling to anyone who wanted one (renewal or new)

The thread title should be changed to make it clear that it refers to the Women's team
