I played a gig last night which was the first in a while. I've spent a considerable amount of time away from the live scene for a number of reasons, but mainly because I've been focusing on writing / the studio

The gig went remarkably well and it reminded me of what I've been missing. So there's a big push this year to gig throughout the UK

I was wondering if a few of you could give me some good pointers on venues in Manchester. I'd probably be looking at doing a couple of acoustic support slots for main acts - about 30 minutes or so. Just want to get the name out there

Talk to me

The Roadhouse used to be good, no idea if it still is though - not been for years.

Hmmmm

I'd like to arrange a gig where a load of Manc based Cafties (and whoever else wants to join the fun) can have a night out. I'd be class if a few of the musicians on here played - Popps, FranklyVulgar, KanieKaned, Mockers etc

A few mates of mine in college were in a band who used to play fairly regularly at The Roadhouse, it's a fairly small venue with a good atmosphere and it's in Piccadilly so central Manchester and very convenient for transport etc. Like I say though it's been a long time since I last went so couldn't say whether it's the same these days.

Roadhouse is good. Club Academy also. Not sure on too many others.

Could try The Deaf Institute, although it might be a little small for what you're looking for.

nows thats a feckin super group right there, although we might get feck all done as me and pops might end up smoking our own combined body weight in weed before most practice session's, never mind gigs.

moho live, band on the wall, deaf institute, night and day, the roadhouse, dry bar, jabez clegg, sub 61, sound control, ruby lounge, gullivers, the academy.

Deaf Institute is my new favourite venue in town.

Night and Day is easy to get on at and I much prefer it to the Roadhouse as both an audience member and performer. If you are in the audience you can actually see the band, unlike at the Roadhouse where the posts and pillars get in the way and with the stage only about 6" off the ground, unless you are above average height you can only see the top of people's heads. Also, it's far to easy to twat the top of your head as you exit the stage there, as I've done on more than one occasion.
