The Rio item has been back on . A rambling sheep fan says he was in an office when about 6/7 weeks ago when he overheard a phonecall from Rio's mum in which she said that Man Utd had approached her .

Assuming Leeds want/have to sell and United know this to be true, things are working very well in United's favour.
United offer a 20M bid which is rejected out of hand.
Rio is advised to then ask for a transfer. Which he does.
United then appear to cool their interest now that Leeds have a player who wants to leave. They say that they would only make a new offer if Leeds say they are listening to bids.
Rio's agent has already made the statement that Rio would love to play for 'Manchester United' who are a 'bigger' and 'better' club. This tells all rival clubs where he wants to play his footie.
If Leeds PLC vote to say they will listen to bids, that opens the door for a new cash bid around 25 Million. Which would have to be put to the PLC at Leeds, and would likely be accepted.

United fans are happy!

Apparently we should pay £50m for him according to some Leeds fan - despite the market conditions.
Its been pointed out that despite us having money, leeds need it just as much as we do - herein lies the problem imo.
