Gerald Ashby - remember him? He was a good Premier League referee, and he has passed away.

Ashby took charge of the 1995 FA Cup Final when Everton beat Manchester United. After retiring, Ashby became a referees' assessor and was recently nominated for a role as a Uefa match delegate. Head of refereeing John Baker told www.thefa.com: "Gerald was a highly respected referee who achieved national and international status, and is perhaps best known for refereeing the 1995 FA Cup Final. Gerald also acted as a coach to a group of referees and assistants on the Select Group of Referees. His sound advice and support was always welcomed and appreciated by top level officials. We remember him fondly and send our deepest sympathies to his family and friends."
