Another sad day as a brilliant entertainer passes away.

A true character.

That rare breed: musician, cultured, articulate and individualistic. One of London's site.

RIP

Yes all of those. But let's avoid the acronym, it would be the last thing Melly would want.

So true! But Melly was never one to quitly disappear.

A traditional West Indian or St. Louis funeral would be his way to go. Lots of partying, joking and reminiscing would be his style.

My Dad first saw George Melly in the late 1940's/early 50's ,I believe ,and he said he was a rum bugger even then!

The world has lost a very colourful character and is poorer for it.

Go to it,George!

He'd have liked that description - booze and sodomy :)

Loved watching him in concert singing "Nuts" and other old-time blues.

His book "Owning Up" is a great read about touring around the towns and women of England with Mick Mulligan. By his definition, the "scrubber belt" ran from Stoke to Newcastle. He was from Liverpool, but we all have our problems.

So true. Another of his books was "Rum, Bum and Concertina" about life in the navy. Goodtime George.
