Do you think that the bitterness of the English media towards Roy Keane is because he keeping the captaincy at club level above the English captain?

That's a VERY good point!

Keano is the kind of player that either he plays for you or you hate his guts.

I would slightly change that. If you are not a United fan you want to hate his guts and not respect him as much as you know you actually do. Ask them, who would they rather see off the lineup facing them if they had one pick?
He is a totally committed, tough, hard as nails, courageous and stubborn bastard. The kind any self-respecting football fan absolutely loves to watch. Fair play and "diplomacy", all very nice, but you need that irreverent rabid dog of a player to actually feel the passion in the game and the heart pumping.
feck the FA, Haaland's lawyers and the press. Football wouldn't be the same. Whenever people bring this love-or-hate thing up (over and over again!) I remember Tony Adams. You had to hate him because he was simply an Arsenal symbol for a decade but didn't your mind play games with you and keep telling you "He would look so good in OUR red..." Wasn't it the same with Psycho or Gazza?
They can be flawed as individuals but I couldn't give a feck about it, they live the game and they are the life in the game.

We accept Roy's flaws we known about them for years. but what i don't accept is when he puts personal grievances above the needs of the team

When you spend 90 minutes on the edge of insanity that kind of thing is bound to happen every now and then. It's not really the first time you see him getting red-carded in such circumstances and I'm pretty sure he feels like a prick once he cools down.
The WC incidents and his book have made it stand out more than usual (although it is always highlighted) and maybe all that has gone on off the pitch has made it harder to stay "under the top". SAF was right to tell him off and once this dies out he'll be fine and ready to break a few legs.
