Do you think that the bitterness of the English media towards Roy Keane is because he keeping the captaincy at club level above the English captain?

Isn't it surely because the English/British media like to bring a man down full stop? They do it to everyone, not just Roy Keane.

The bitterness is media-fuelled. Fair enough rival fans don't like him but that's because he's seen as a threat, as well as a thug. The Telegraph had 7 articles on Keano yesterday, usually there would be 2 at most.

The media, unfortunately, haven't got any major stories at the moment with the transfer window now shut until January. This story is tailor made for them at the minute and will run and run until something else happens.

One person to benefit from this is Rio, there is no spotlight on him at the moment so he can go about settling in properly without the spotlight burning brightly on him.

That's a VERY good point!

Some truth in what you say.But doesn`t Keane and all players come to that use the media for their own purposes i.e(Sell books)you can`t have it both ways or can you?

United fans don't hate Roy Keane for 1 reason, he is a United player hence we love him.
Keano is the kind of player that either he plays for you or you hate his guts.
As much as I love him you can't ignore the fact that he is sometimes a violent player and has discipline problems, would you like a player like that if he wasn't our captain and when he wants to, one of the best midfielders in europe ?

I think that if keane had been the england captain there would be no hula balo about this just look at the shearer instance at L.city

The fact that Keano is irish has nothing to do it. He has always been demonized because he is a threat and making him into a monster sells papers.

Besides wasnt this latest saga an irish affair where McAteer (aka McIdiot) could not let go of the past.....he took Keane down from behind and had no intention of going for the ball. It was a revenge attack (possibly pre-meditated) but he will not be writing about it any book..........Peter Reid was a dirty player for Everton and he knew exactly what he was doing when he matched up Keano and McIdiot in the centre....

The media build some players up to knock them down and for others their characters allow for them to be continually knocked down. We have seen this kind of biased and hateful commentary against other Utd player......remember Cantona.....Becks after 1998....Veron last year.....They wont be the last.

Veron will also benefit. The press seem to be laying off him.

I would slightly change that. If you are not a United fan you want to hate his guts and not respect him as much as you know you actually do. Ask them, who would they rather see off the lineup facing them if they had one pick?

He is a totally committed, tough, hard as nails, courageous and stubborn bastard. The kind any self-respecting football fan absolutely loves to watch. Fair play and "diplomacy", all very nice, but you need that irreverent rabid dog of a player to actually feel the passion in the game and the heart pumping.

feck the FA, Haaland's lawyers and the press. Football wouldn't be the same. Whenever people bring this love-or-hate thing up (over and over again!) I remember Tony Adams. You had to hate him because he was simply an Arsenal symbol for a decade but didn't your mind play games with you and keep telling you "He would look so good in OUR red..." Wasn't it the same with Psycho or Gazza?

They can be flawed as individuals but I couldn't give a feck about it, they live the game and they are the life in the game.

We accept Roy's flaws we known about them for years. but what i don't accept is when he puts personal grievances above the needs of the team

When you spend 90 minutes on the edge of insanity that kind of thing is bound to happen every now and then. It's not really the first time you see him getting red-carded in such circumstances and I'm pretty sure he feels like a prick once he cools down.

The WC incidents and his book have made it stand out more than usual (although it is always highlighted) and maybe all that has gone on off the pitch has made it harder to stay "under the top". SAF was right to tell him off and once this dies out he'll be fine and ready to break a few legs. ;)
