It’s now confirmed. A small Maltese Premiership team (Marsaxlokk) is very near in luring former England’s International Gazza

It is not the first time that a high profile player has signed for a Maltese team. Nigerian internationals Akanji and Chikunyere currently play in the Maltese league.

What surprised me was why? Ok Gazza is at the wrong side of his carrier but although he is now slow he could have easily played in England or Italy’s minor leagues. Malta is too small for Gazza’s boots, let alone Marsaxlokk (for Malta its equivalent to Bolton in England)

What do you think?

I think he'll be perfect there. Whole island is full of fat, drunken ex-pats who go on about past glories. Plenty of greasy food and cheap alcohol, plus an annual influx of young slappers on their summer vacations - doubt he'll ever want to come back.

Though I am English (insult my country at your peril) you wouldn’t insult Malta if you knew its history and PPL well.

On history level Malta has one of the oldest histories in the world (with the first Neolithic temples built on this small island) The Maltese had always been known for their loving character (pinpointed even in the new testament by St John) but always stood out both during their first siege (Against one of the two main Turkish empire attempts to invade Europe) and the WW2 (per area Malta was the most bombarded during the WW2) Both sieges were won and all the Maltese citizens were décorated with the George Cross.

On football level Malta can pride of having some of the oldest clubs in the world (a small football club in Malta Bormla FC is the 11th Oldest club in the world. It prides also of having the OLDEST Manutd Supporters club in the world built in the early 50s. The sincere love and respect between the Maltese and the English is leggendary ( same for Manutd) and its known that great players like Best, Beckham and the Nevilles had fount refuge to these islands whenever they were under fire.

Being a small island, the football level here in Malta is a bit low. But that doesn’t hide the fact that they did had wonderful results against great teams like Italy ( 2-1 where a Maltese striker failed a penalty ) England ( 2-1 where a Maltese striker failed a penalty) , Manutd (1-1) and Mallorca ( Malta won 2-0). The talent is rare but very good

This include

Busuttil, Malta best ever player who used to play for Genk Belgium and can pride of scoring against Italy and Spain

Mifsud Currently playing in the Bundersliga with Kaiserlautern

Giglio Currently playing with CSKA Sofia but is scouted both with AC Milan and a German team

Glad to here there are some Neolithic remains - Gazza should really feel at home then.

BTW the Maltese typical type of food is Mediteranian. It doesnt settle on fish and chips

Yes Devlish I know. But Gazza is the sort of guy that takes a suitcase of HP sauce with him wherever he goes.

You could stick him in the middle of the Louvre and his response would be to draw a moustache on the Mona Lisa.

I understand the rich cultural history Malta has. My school even had a fecking Maltese Cross as their crest - but there is also a heavy ex-pat minority culture going on there too - while you take the high road you can be sure old Gazza will take the low......
