On Sunday, all the players looked ecstatic.

But the look on Gary Neville's face was something else.

No-one can ever doubt his commitment to United, and as he was man of the match as well, it should shut up those who think he's not good enough.

Amen to that! God people were ready to lynch him after the Man City match. Really don't think you can blame that entirely on just one player though. There were others on the pitch who are just as much to blame, but Gary seems to have found vindication and that is good to see. :)

Thing is, not only is he 100% committed to the club, but also undoubtebly one of the best rightbacks in the league.

That is why it was so bothersome that people were laying the Man City loss squarely on his shoulders.

As someone who has criticised Gary in the past, I take my hat off to his performance last week, and actually think that it was his best performance ever in a red shirt (I can't think of another match where he played as well in).

But if you have read my previous posts, I have always said that Gary is a quality defender, last week's performance as a defender was as good as any player in world football could have put in. It is in games however when Gary is asked to bring the ball out of defence e.g Euro football where he has more time and space on the ball than perhaps he has in the EPL, however I have noticed this also in EPL games for us as well.

The dilemma facing us as fans is do we want a quality defenisve player like Gary who is poor attacking, or a poor defensive player who is quality attacking wise?

Personally I would like a player with both, and there are players out there with both

just like what a local media of my country mentioned, Gary would gladly pay man utd to put on the famous red shirt.

:D

I tend to view things very simplisticly.

I'm just happy to have such a committed player in the squad, and knowing he can perform as good as he did on Sunday, is a bonus.

In answer to your question, id rather he was a good defender. Thats what he's in there for, to be a defender. Besides he's not as bad as you make out, particularly when he links up with Beckham. He brings much more to the team than you seem to recognise.

he can cross the ball well and is useful on the overlap, i dont see the problem. i'd rather have a good defender anyway, and make the class in midfield tell.

G Nev is good but I wouldnt sacrifice O SHEA for him

The only reason Gary gets linched every time he fecks up...(and he dont feck up often because he is a damn good player). Its his face, his temperment, he has just got one off those faces that you could punch all day, and not get bored off doing it. Some players are just not liked.

I've had a pop at him in the past and probably will again in the future but his committment and loyalty is unquestioned. He was brilliant on sunday and it was one of his best ever games but we all know he'll have a lapse of concentration soon or wrongly try to play offside. If he turned in the kind of performance he had on sunday in every game then he'd be one of the worlds top defenders.

As for a strong defender who's good going forward (and carries a goal threat) then Stephen Carr would be ideal for us. And yes, I am biased ;)

The problem with Gary Neville is his inability to beat opponents. If he played LB with Giggs in front of him, there would be no problem. Quite frankly, I think he is a much better CB than a FB.

Gary's red through and through, imo is one of our most consistent players, is imo the best right back in the league and not bad at centre back either, and was gutted after his performance v City

The sight of Fab kicking the ball in to the air with a smile on his face and Gary giving Diego a massive bear hug was a joy to see. :D

Gaz Nev's passion and commitment cannot and never has been questioned. He is obviously as much a fan as you and I and it shows when he plays. I sometimes wonder however if he does himself any favours by talking so much like a hard-core fan in interviews and such. He has become something of a hate figure with non-United fans because of this attitude. In many ways he is probably more outspoken than Roy Keane.
But so what?...if Gary Neville is big enough to take it on the chin, we should be too. Live by the sword, die by the sword...Main Road and Anfield were two sides of the same coin. The next time you hear a Chuckle Bros. joke, laugh the loudest safe in the knowledge, that in this age of remote prima donna superstars, we have at least one genuine blood flesh and bone United fan out there on the pitch with every inch of his body and soul straining to give his all for the shirt. Somebody who'd give as much as you'd like to think you would.

Redpie has said it all!

Gary Neville - Forever A Red Devil! I jus hope he reads this forum sometimes and sees that he IS appreciated.

Firstly, I hope Gary stays with the club for many years to come. He is an example to all. But his days as a RB are numbered I fear. If Gary was a few inches taller, however, he would be the perfect CB partner for Rio.

He was outstanding last Sunday, and I was as please as everyone else with the way he came back after the derby nghtmare. But then Liverpool are famously lacking in quick players on the flanks. Today will be a much sterner test - I hope he passes with flying colours.
