Whatever happens, there are always things you coul
Well, it is reported that garnett is 90% gone to celtics. I'm a huge garnett fan (reason I supported t-wolves). In a way i'm happy that he's gone now cause he can now get a ring but I wanted him to go to better team than boston (I never liked the celtics). I don't how allen, garnett, pierce are gonna work together, but I'm pretty sure they can win atlantic division now.
Garnett in the low post will allow allen to free up for three's and pierce can do his thing. They are instant contenders for eastern conference now, but I don't think they have what it takes to win it all. He sacrificed a lot for minny and it was time for him to go. The deal isn't official yet but its definitely a done deal. As for who is going on the other end, al jefferson, a draft pick, ratliff, gerald green.
The suns were also in the hund for garnett and were willing to give up amare for him, but mchale wanted jefferson in the end. Garnett in phoenix would've brought suns the nba championship. Garnett deserves a championship, hopefully boston can give it to him.

The celtics have basically given up thier entire team apart from Pierce to get KG and Allen. They are now automatic contenders for the East. feck! I wanted KG to come to LA.

In the weak Eastern Conference, they are one of the favorites to make it to the Finals now no question, but winning in the Finals with no bench, Allen having two bad ankles and all those miles on KG's legs is a whole different story.

They have a 2 or 3 year window at the very most to do this. If the trio doesn't stay healthy then this is going to be one hell of a train wreck.

But anyway you look at it... the C's are going to be utter shite in 3 or 4 years.

Exactly. they have given up bucketloads of cash for two ageing stars and they need a championship to show for it. Also if one of the three gets injured for a long time they are fecked. They may win the East but they still have to face teams like SA and Phoenix who are still arguably more talented.

Agree

Don't see them beating SA, Phoenix or Dallas in a 7-game series.

All those teams are way more deeper then the Celtics and in the NBA playoffs it's the survival of the fittest

Also throw in the fact that Rivers is still the C's coach. Then you have game, set and match

I don't give a shit about the 'long term relevance' or all that other bullshit; the celtics are a team again and I can watch them without covering my eyes. we'll still make a run out of it, and frankly, I don't give a shit about 'waiting for promising youth to develop.' I want good basketball now. and that's what I'm getting. so, a message to the jealous lakers fans who will enjoy another few seasons languishing in sixth seed first round dropout land whilst enjoying kobe drama queen breakdowns:

Lakers fans feck off.

The irony of a Sox fan living of past glories probably escapes him. When next year Garnet and Allen both blow a knee and miss the play offs and you have a starting five that would make last years sorry bunch look like world beaters then lets talk. Oh and here's a news flash, you still ain't gonna win shit.

this just in: plastic lakers fans are a joke.

That Pic of Bird and Magic reminds me of how crap the NBA is today compared to the 80s.

Best player in the NBA. We'll take that thanks. Note to boston fans, must do better at comebacks.

The Celtics gave up quite a bit to get an aging player with only 1 year remaining on his contract. This should put the Celtics in position to make the playoffs and depending on the health of the key trio, and the rest of the supporting cast's performances, they could make the conference finals. But even if they get past that round, there's no way they can take out Dallas, Phoenix, or San Antonio, nor would I favor them over Golden State.

It's good for the league when a marquee club like Boston is once again drawing media hype and looking at a playoff run. Now, if only the NY Knicks can get their shit together.

loosest vagina in the NBA. I'll take my three all stars, as opposed to a one man cry baby sob story for a team. note to plastic yankees/lakers fans, must find less homosexual teams to cheer for.

enjoy the year 2010

he just signed an extension. he's not leaving after next year. enjoy jerking yourself off for the rest of your life.

see, look at this lad, he's got the look of a low-post dominator. three championships in a row, guaranteed.

thanks for at last a somewhat unbiased response. he signed an extension and won't be around just for one season. the key three will remain intact for a few seasons and this will give time to add more support. I'm not expecting championships, but I do think we'll make a run. a lot of pressure on these three players, but a life-long celtic leader, a great three point shooter, and the best low post player in the game can handle pressure. other guys will have to step up and nothing is guaranteed. but this isn't a one season try and things will get better. I don't even care so much about winning immediately, but my favorite team is no longer a joke. the celtics are an important franchise in the NBA and to have them relevant again is a great thing for basketball (especially in light of the refereeing scandal). agreed on the knicks, I'd like them to be respectable again. it's no fun having teams like the miami heat be seen as the 'big teams.' we need more of these classic clubs in the mix (good to see chicago and detroit playing well also).

They may not win the chamionship but they will be contenders in the east and nba championship contenders which is great for boston fans. If a fully fit trio of pierce, garnett and allen doesn't do well in playoffs this year (1st or 2nd round exit) I fully expect doc rivers to be gone. Personally, I don't think he is the man to guide the team to the promised land. I would've like stan there but he's in orlando. Being a toronto fan, I don't like boston at all (not particularly fond of pierce), but now that my boy garnett is there I will be rooting for celtics to win it all.

Noy Yo, did you see the press conference with pierce, garnett and allen. I thought it was pretty sick. Pierce said he felt like a rookie and allen said since he knows garnett and pierce are gonna bring it every night, he's gonna have to bust his ass too every night.

Yep, I saw it. Pretty cool to see those three lined up.

I think they'll all make each other better. Pierce and Garnett will still be top notch; both will be reinvigorated after being in the cellar for so long.

I'm not a huge fan of the Doc either but maybe it's just poor circumstances that led to my dislike. He seems like a good guy, but if he can't do it with this team then he's gotta go. He's got a ton of pressure to make a big playoff run.

Like I've said before, I'm not gonna freak out and call this instant championships, but it makes the Celtics a non-joke team and that makes me very happy.

I can't see Boston getting past the 2nd round, if that far. No bench. No defense. Aging players. This reminds me of when Houston got Barkley in 1996 and many thought the trio of Olajuwon-Drexler-Barkley would lead the Rockets to glory. The lost in the conference finals in 1997 and went out in the first round in 1998. That team had a deep bench. If Boston can find a couple decent backups, they could go a long ways. Not this season IMO.

I agree. The East is wide open. it all comes down to injuries and form when the play-offs come around. Cleveland have Lebron, Detroit has 4 all stars in prince, wallace, billups and hamilton, NJ has Carter,Kidd,Jefferson and Krstic, Toronto,Charlotte and Chicago has good young talent that can make a run and lets not forget the Wizards who could have gone to the finals if Arenas and Butler hadn't got injured before the play-offs.

Boston still has weak-spots at Center and PG which are arguably the important positions in play-off basketball not to mention their coach is :wenger: . Should be interesting but I agree that either way the winner of the West will be huge favorites for the finals.

He'll be 34 in the year 2010. His body will break down by then or be very close to it, same with Ray.

Hope this helps.

Hope you enjoy the next 2 or 3 years.

I really hope you enjoy seeing those new Atlantic Division banners being hoisted alongside those old Championship ones.

Then I hope you like seeing the Celtics go back to rebuilding mode for the following decade, then no dout piss it all away for vets who would be lucky to get your now piece of shit franchise to the 2nd round.

Have a nice life.

you dipshits are bashing me over my team when you're LAKERS fans? what the feck are they gonna do this year? kobe can't do it on his own either.

this is getting boring. no more of this thread for me.

Looks like Jermaine O'Neal is telling the Pacers he wants to be traded to the Lakers.

But what do the Lakers have to give up?

O'Neal would help Kobe a great deal, but they'd still be short in the starting five and on the bench. In the stacked west, 5th at best.

With only Kobe we were 3-1 up on the Suns a couple of years ago. I'd give up Odom and smush parker in a heartbeat for O'neal.

Damn I had no idea. Was it as a free agent or in a trade? I prefer Farmar to him anyways.
