Yes it's the Daily Star , but you never know.

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has opened talks withArsenal ahead of a possible £4million move to north London, reports the Daily Star.
The 32-year-old England international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and following the arrival of new manager Manuel Pellegrini, is concerned about his first-team future.
With the addition of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho already this summer, competition for places in the Manchester City midfield has already increased, and Barry might look to protect his long-term future with one eye on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is willing to offer Barry a one-year contract with wages of £75,000-a-week, after offering him assurances that he will be an integral part of the senior team at the Emirates Stadium.
An option for a second-year extension will depend on his success at Arsenal, but it's anticipated that the player will accept a wage cut from his current £100,000-a-week salary.
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are both also believed to be monitoring Barry's situation this pre-season, but after opening negotiations with the Manchester City star, Arsenal remain favourites to secure his signature. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/325313/Arsenal-target-Gareth-Barry/

Linked with Rooney, Higuain, Suarez. Sign Barry.

Seriously tough could be a decent stop gap signing for Arsenal.

I'm suspicious all these names being linked isn't just a ploy to convince Arsenal fans they're willing to spend big money without actually spending big money. Come September 1st they can respond to criticism but simply pointing to names there were linked to.

'See there is money to spend, we were in for Barry, Rooney, Suarez and Higuain.'

Pete would shit a lung if that happened.

If Arse is an adjective it is perfectly feasible.

If they're trying to get fans on side with Gareth Barry rumours they're doing it wrong.

They've apparantly been leaking their targets to the media so to maximise season-ticket sales, they've done that shit for a good few years & end up with cheap-as-chips no-bodys!

Sure they havent even bid for Higuain & the media were reporting that the deal was close - he was at the airport etc etc.. It'll probably be the same shit again with Arsenal & Barry bein mentioned is typical of them in recent years... Barry's shit!

Make noises about signing top players - buy average Premier League ones... Are Arsenal the new Liverpool or something?

Congratulations Arse fans.

Does this mean they are making plans to replace wilshere when he inevitably decides he would quite like to win something?

That idea reminds me of a story in a newspaper reporting on Chelsea's Smertin going on loan to Portsmouth saying "Chelsea believe the 30 year old is one for the future"

I thought Rafa might've tried to get him at Napoli, maybe offer to sell Hamsik to fund a move to get his man.

feck off...

Arsenal are manoeuvring themselves into a position to bring Cesc Fabregas back to north London this summer.
The former Gunners skipper is currently on his summer holidays following Spain's Confederations Cup campaign and is pondering his future after a frustrating season at Barcelona. Publicly, the Spaniard maintains he wants to stay at the Nou Camp, but doubts over how he fits into manager Tito Vilanova's plans after being regularly overlooked for big games last season has left Fabregas in two minds.

Of course. Ronaldo coming back to United, Cesc coming back to Arsenal this summer. Anyone else returning to their former employers?

Why the feck would Fabregas want to go back to Arsenal? There's ZERO chance of Arsenal winning either the prem trophy or the CL trophy. The league cup is within Arsenal's reach but surely Cesc has no interest in lifting that small of a trophy.

I'm afraid Arsenal will have to settle for Gareth Barry. At 100k/week, he's a steal!

 It's pretty much the worse thing that can happen to a club, being linked with Gareth Barry.

Seriously, just

Is there really zero chance?

Wenger is turning Arsenal into Aston Villa. Milner, and Benteke are his next targets. Shame, I think they might finish below Liverpool, Spurs, Everton ans Sunderland if they don't go further than foreplay this transfer window.

I won't have to. I usually only care about teams +/- 2 spots of United. Arsenal have a lot of catching up to do to get there.

Don't be so haughty. You do realise SAF has retired and there is no guarantee of how well the new manager might do, right?

Yes. City and Chelsea could finish above us. They are good team that have strengthened this season. I don't rate Arsenal at all. I am willing to take a bet that they'll finish 10 points within Sunderland.
