What do you call the game genre where you have a box at the bottom similar to the Monkey Island games like 'LOOK AT, PICK UP, TALK TO, USE, etc...

I remmeber a game of that style I played years ago, the only thing I can remember of it is looking at a map and then going to some weird shop, I think a book shop, also maybe something about a snake in that shop.

Anyway I'm looking to either play that again, or similar games. What is the genre called, and what good games of that type can I find online?

Is it really point and click? I see that more as those Escape games and ones like that.

That's what i know it by or "Point and Click Adventure game" to give it the longer title.

It's definitely Point and Click, but I think they also used to be called Adventure Puzzlers.

Monkey Island
Indiana Jones
Simon the Sorcerer 1 & 2
The Legend of Kyrandia
Lure of the Temptress
Broken Sword 1 & 2
Grim Fandango
Loom

just off the top of my head.

There is a big one I'm missing I think, can't recall it.

That sounds like Simon the Sorceror, by Snake do you mean a small green thing that was crying because he didn't have any mushroom soup or something?

There was a map in Simon too and many shops.

Little Big Adventure?

Don't recall that one Pexbo, was it Amiga? I really only remember the ones I sat watching my mum complete, I used to play the Settlers & Cannon fodder mainly, with some Lotus Turbo Challenge thrown in for commodore.

Oh yeah! Flight of the Amazon Queen and probably the last true great P&C was Myst.

All the lucas-arts ones are classics;

Day of the Tentacle
Sam'n'max
Full Throttle
Monkey Island
and probably my favourite game ever Grim Fandango

First game I ever remember having any sort of "atmosphere".

It was probably a complete joke looking back now

Sheet metal or something, can't remember it's name at all...very annoying, it was a famous one.

Which ones of these can I play online in a browser at work?

Hijacking this thread to say that I've just remembered a point and click game I used to play on my old (Windows 3.11, I think) PC. You played as a fox, if I remember rightly, and I'm sure one of the first places you went to was a fair of some kind. Also a bank.

I'm going to spend ages scouring the internet for this now. I hope you're happy

Yeah just looked it up on wiki there, he was the bad guy.

Everything about Grim Fandango was just amazing. The artwork, the characters, the storyline, the longevity, the whole atmosphere of it in general. It was LucasArts at it's peak. I'd love to play it again

So I'm using dosbox to try and play Legend of Kyrandia...

for some reason, even though perfectly mounted when kyracd.bat attempts to run the message is "cd isn't in the cd drive."

Any ideas?

Started playing King's Quest I. Fecking walking around in circles.

Aaaaaah, Grim Fandango... was funny right from the off... Who can make a balloon visage of Robert Frost?!

Got stuck at a certain level, looking for a key to get into/out of a junkyard or smth. :(

I call them the Lucasarts games because they all have an extremely similar style.
