Galatasaray to bid £42 million for Osimhen

I think he’d struggle in the PL. we’ve already got enough players who aren’t up to it technically.

Get him! We need his goals!

Isn't he there already? If he was registered at Napoli this season already, he might not actually be eligble to move anywhere else this season. (Or not, I'm by no means at all up on the current rulea.)

Yep. 4 goals in 5.

Sounds like another player that was just being vastly over rated based on a purple patch.

Mostly rated on his potential but also 1 season with 26 goals in serie A and several with 10+ goals

He's still only 25 so he could yet come close to that potential, £42 million is far more reasonable than in the past where Napoli were talking astronomical fees that made it unlikely he'd transfer anywhere

He's had an absurdly adversarial relationship with what's always struck me as a properly vindictive owner. I don't know that he's any good, but I don't think his current situation necessarily reflects his status under normal circumstances.

Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Comes across as a monumental twat and no club should be willing to pay that much for him.

what even happened to him and why no one wants him suddenly?

Will be a disaster signing for us. We need fast, hungry players in their prime, not someone with a sharp decline.

overrated by the owner who probably priced him out of a chance to go the PL and prove himself. Shame because there will always be that question over whether he had a purple patch in SerieA or not.

Always thought he was destined for Chelsea especially as they sent Lukaku Napoli way.

Probably still feels a logical move if he ends up in the prem eventually.

Latest hipster name

Nobody was saying that when Osimhen was ripping it up in Italy while your boy was playing Championship football with the sky blues.

And why would they? Osimhen was on the back of a productive season and the pool for top tier strikers currently is pretty shallow, it seems pretty obvious Osimhen would be wanted by most fans given he was one of the most productive strikers who wasn't already at a top club.

If the sporting striker is within our budget i'm almost certain the manager will likely want us to make a move for him, as our current options at CF aren't up to the required standard and he knows our managers system and expectation.

He comes with a lot of baggage. I don't think he will end up permanently in Turkey though.

His wages demands are insane and his agent is a twat

Tbh he's worth a punt at that price. We paid pretty much the same for Zirkzee (albeit in instalments), and he's been absolute bobbins. He can't be worse than him, and I suspect will still be considerably cheaper than someone like Gyokeres.

I mean some of us (me included admittedly) wanted us to spend big for him when we were looking for a striker a couple of seasons ago.

Of course wages should be a concern, but if a broke club like Galatasaray can afford him, we should be able to figure something out without breaking our wage structure.

The idea that Osimhen had a one season purple patch is very misleading.

Even ignoring that season where he returned 0.84 non-penalty goals per 90, he is goal returns in the surrounding seasons were also excellent at 0.64/0.55. And was backed up by the underlying stats too. He has always been a player who gets chances and goals when on the pitch, and there's no reason to think that will change.

The real problem is the "on the pitch" part. The key thing about that 22/23 season wasn't a purple patch in terms of goals, but a purple patch in terms of fitness, as he played around 30% more minutes in the league than he did in the surrounding seasons. His injury history makes for ugly reading.

I've watched a couple of Gala matches this season(because the in-laws are Gala fans). He has yet to impress me, maybe he's playing on 80% of actual ability, but if he is actually as good as he himself believes himself to be or as good as he was for that Serie A winning season for Napoli, I don't know. Becuase players like Icardi, Dzeko and Immobile are/where scoring goals easily in this league and they are older and supposedly "worse" than him. Even Cenk Tosun had a good run in this league not long ago.

Forgot about him. Had one great season really. I'd be wary of Serie A forwards...
We got forwards who scored a combined 22 goals in 85 games. Osimhen scored 26 in one season by comparison. Anyway you can't really judge a player based off a league, in that case you'd never buy from Bundesliga based on Sancho, while letting other teams get a De Bruyne or Haaland etc.

Well 55 goals in his last 84 games - and he has never had a full season where he didn't score close to 1 goal pr 2 games in the league - that's a hell of a lot better than any of our strikers

His release clause is 100M in January but supposedly comes down to around 60M in the summer. Amorim will have had over two thirds of a season to work with Rasmus who is a very similar profile to Gyorkes and ought to be up to speed on the system and expectations by the summer. I am not saying we won't sign him but it is possible that rather than buy the player for big money we will look to identify the next Gyorkes at Championship level or in Europe that can be signed and developed to rotate with Rasmus as Amorim seems to be that rare coach who makes players better.
