Oh and his name means 'Wave' or 'Tide' or something in Hebrew?

Mazel Tov HR.

Nice that your country can have a happier headline.

Seems that the Jews have rediscovered the ability to walk on water!

It's wave indeed!
His dad and uncle were both European champions before windurfing became an olympic event, so all the kids' names were related to sea/water.

the celebrations are over the top IMO. It's a dream come true for the boy (he won bronze in 1996), but it was  watching our minister of sport and education jump on the podium immediately after the national anthem was played.

The phone call from Ariel Sharon was most embarrassing, and too much a-la- Ghadaffi to my liking.

It's his own acheivement, rather than a tribute to the Jewish/Israeli spirit bla, bla, bla. These games somehow appear to bring out the fascist element in so many of us.

 at Sharon's very much written speech. He obviously had little knowledge of what he was saying.

As for that minister, what a joke. A true glory hunter! She was there when Ze'evi won his Judo medal, and joined in at the party with Pesahovic qualifying to the final of the Kayak's. Also joining the bloody broadcast of the Israeli channel at least twice now. Never missing the chance to be seen or heard.

Politicians

Especially in Munich.

Far better seeing the Israeli flag at full mast rather the half.

Thats why your country has every reason to go overboard with it's medals.

Again, it's a tribute to Gal's determination and not to Israeli sport.
He came back from almost retiring and the disappointment of missing out on Sydney 2000.
Though he has already vowed to go with the medal to the Munich '72 victims' memorial, and the general public's delight with his win, the politicians' opportunism leave a sour taste. I wouldn't be surprised if he was as disgusted as anyone else with the political circus surrounding him atm.
