Eugene, are you even listening to me?
Kerry beaten by Mayo in Division 1A, in Tralee last night, 1-15 to 1-14.

Apparently Mayo showed great spirit and enthusiasm under their new manager, and against Kerry, who normally wipe the floor with them. Don't think we had a full side out either, and only lost by a point after coming back into the game strongly. No disaster either, it seems we've recently lost the opening league game of the season as a matter of course. Still, losing matches doesn't please me.

great scrap, livened up very dull proceedings

good scalp for the Dubs who were heavily tipped to lose

I wonder which way GAA fans from the other 30 counties are looking at what happened in Omagh yesterday? Are they thinking :-

It was the Dubs' fault, dirty feckers

or

Its about time somebody played those Northies at their own game ?

Both :D

Cork 0-9 Kerry 0-14

5 point win over a game Cork side by the sounds of it. We outscored them 7-2 over the last 20 mins, good sign early in the season I'd say. Cork started well, had 4 or 5 points of a lead for a time, but Kerry kept plugging away and class told in the end. Mike Frank Russell was on freetaking duty. Good result and performance, but I've an inkling that all may not be sweetness and light in the camp.

Mayo 1-15 Offaly 0-10

We dominated the second half. I think we'll win Connacht this year after that who knows. Watch out for Ger Brady throughout the season, he's an ex-Connacht rugby player who goes through men like they aren't there.

The Dubs came crashing down to earth with a bang against Monaghan, I wasn't really too surprised in the aftermath of the infamous battle of Omagh from last week. Still happy enough though, Pillar seems to be taking them in the right direction, he's a canny manager, still work to be done yet before they start getting ambitions of winning Sam.

poor performance against monaghan, i think the "battle of omagh" took a bit too much out of them! pillar doi ng a good job though....roll on june

heh heh heh

you're right though in fairness, the GAA hierarchy don't know their arses from their elbows

The GAA is a joke on this (and similar matters previously) but that said, when are players and management going to accept their punishment?
No problem with assaults on the pitch every week but when a player is sent off or suspended following video evidence they contest the suspensions handed down. Every suspension is now challenged, even all the way to the high court if neccessary - I love Gaelic Games but this sort of shite would drive anyone away from it.

One point to spare over Monaghan in Clones...not easy that one. Another strong finish, it's all very encouraging so far. There was some aggro in the tunnel afterwards...not sure what that's all about.

you're right, in fairness the players should have accepted their bans and got on with it, it is a complete farce but its up to the top dogs in the organisation to close the loopholes which allow for these sort of challenges by the players

Do any of you guys know where you can get hold of any of the old hurling videos from the 60s or 70s as my dad has been searching and so far has had no joy?

Seems they're hard enough to find online alright

Your Dad is a Christy Ring fan isn't he? I've seen this....it's good.

A good bet may be to contact TG4 and order one here, it doesn't say what they have, but they do show old time hurling and football matches very regularly.

Or if he really wants a quick Michael O'Hehir fix, play these

Cheers, yes he is and has been looking for old footage since he came over to london about 40 years ago.

Thanks for the help, that top link doesn't seem to work.

how does a team qualify for the later stages ?is it the top 4 in division one ?

Top 2 in division's 1A & 1B meet in the semis. Most likely;
Mayo v Down
Kerry v Laois
Tyrone's win against Cork might put paid to that

Hopefully the Dubs do us a favour against Kerry. Otherwise it'll be the biggest robbery in the history of the National League if Mayo don't get through.

all yis have to do is beat Tyrone though, we did it

Mayo and Kerry through despite drawing their final group games

Good draw for a below strength Dublin

I know nothing about the game to be honest, I'll see it later...but I heard Jack O'Connor on the radio around lunchtime and I got the impression that the whole thing was a bit up in the air from a preparation point of view. Mick McCarthy out, the Pony back in, Decky Sull out, Gooch waivering....not ideal, that kind of carry on.

We're through though, a few more nice competitive games wouldn't go amiss.

To be honest, I'm still disturbed about the Tyrone game.

Glad mayo made it. They have played some nice football. Conal Keeney seems to be hitting form at the right time for the Dubs. Sam here we come. COME ON YE BOYS IN BLUE............

Gooch is class, made a huge impact when introduced to the game, Kerry will play better in the championship, Dublin are steadily improving but have a long way to go yet

Mayo vs Galway - Castlebar
Kerry vs Laois - Killarney

I can see us beating Galway fairly easily. Heaney always marks Joyce out of the game. Donnellan will destroy Nallen though. Bit of a joke that the final isn't in Croke Park. It's not often a Mayo man gets to go watch Mayo in a final in Croke Park! Glad Tyrone are out, they're the dirtiest team I've ever seen play Mayo. At one stage Stephen O'Neill stamped on one of our lads head and got away with it.

Kerry should manage to be Laois.

Half right.

It's Gooch v Galway, in Limerick.

Well we were outplayed by galways spoiling tactics. Hopefully the Gooch gives them a hammering in the final.

U-21 All Ireland Final Sunday.
Mayo vs Cork, Ennis.

Think it's on TG4. Watch out for a lad called Aidan Campbell, he plays for Mayo. I go to school with the guy, great footballer and still only 18. Possibility of being one of the best players in Ireland in a few years.

Our lads have every chance of winning our first All-Ireland at any grade since 1985. The county will go wild if we do because we seem to think we have a jinx on us. We've lost 15 All Ireland Finals in 20 Years at U-21, Minor and Senior. A win would give us a great boost for the future.
