Manchester United are lining up a £3m summer bid for Real Zaragoza's Argentine central defender Gabriel Milito. (Daily Mail)

Is this the guy Carlos tried to get while he was at Real?

Milito's transfer to Real Madrid was all set but he failed the physical so they cancelled it.

But somehow, Woodgate managed to pass it

Doubt if United bid for him he'd only cost 3mil. Probably at least 8-10 mil.

The failed physical was just an excuse. Real changed their mind all the sudden and went for another player in different position.

Milito failed the Real medical and played almost every game for Zaragoza.

Woodgate passed the Real medical and we all know what happened... :wenger:

It would be great if we could get a bargain like this. Especially the italian top clubs are buying like this every year, while we have to pay at least £10 millions to get a good player.

He is a bit small isn't he? But very fast?

the problem with us having 2 defenders from argentina is what happens if they were called up to play for their country in the middle of our schedule. This would leave us short

he's one of the best young defenders in La Liga, and the phantom injury that Real pulled out over hasn't reared its ugly head.

He's been excellent all season apparently. He's supposed to be one of these hard bastard defensive centre backs

I like those hard bastard defensive centre back types...

Good point by a devil inside though...

And he won't be available for £3m - double that at least.

Real Zaragoza defender Gabriel Milito has responded to speculation linking him with Manchester United and Barcelona by stressing he wants to stay at La Romareda.
The highly-rated Argentinian stopper has impressed at Zaragoza after picking up the pieces of his career when a dream move to Real Madrid collapsed when he controversially failed a medical.
"If it is up to me, I will stay," commented Milito to As.
After proving his worth in Europe since leaving Independiente, the 24-year-old seems settled in La Liga and is under contract until 2007.
United successfully imported another Argentinian last year, Gabriel Heinze from Paris Saint Germain, while Barca are known to be keen to strengthen their defensive options during the close season.
Milito is being rated in the €12 million class but his buy-out clause is actually €30 million.
"I don't believe the club will sell Gabriel Milito," added Zaragoza sports director Miguel Pardaza.

heard he is a quality player
but 3 million?hmn..very cheap and quality players don't come that cheap
robin van persie - 3.5m
petr cech- 3-4m
ole- don't remember the price but he came at a bargain
defoe- 7m
kewell-3m, ok he is crap now but at the time he moved we were also chasing him and he was hot property

Milan want Silvestre so I recon we should sell him due to himself making costly errors in crucial stages of the pitch/match and then buy Milito because he is a quality defender.

kewell is crap don't talk about him
but yeah you have a good point about van persie there
anyway milito is not the first choice defender for argentina right?

yeah but only 2 out of terry campbell and fredinand will play that does not make the one who misses out bad... or king + a fit woodgate as well

He is in the squad though and they do have a good back 4

Zanetti----Samuel----Ayala-----Heinze

I think he will probably be the successor to Ayala as he looks signifigantly better than Colcocini and Burdisso.

Milito isn't first team regular in Argetinian squad. Here is their defence:

Zanetti------Ayala--------Samuel--------Heinze/Sorin

ezee i thought they play a 3-5-2 formatioN?

well zanetti does his thing and runs all up and down the right... he's not exactly a right back but im just making the point that just because milito is not a first team player for agrentina does not make him a bad player... just like with terry ferdinand and campbell...

the medical check is only done on the facial appearance......, not physical or technical

that is why becks, owen and woodgate passed while you never hear real are interested in signing keano, ruud, rio or giggs.......

hmmm, and Graveson is a Calvin Klein model isn't he.

But could a 5'9", 154lb CD survive in the Premiership?

Queiroz had a nice comment about Milito when Madrid were close to signing him.
Date Comment by
09/07/2003 Real Madrid manager, Carlos Queiroz
"He is a great signing. He is an excellent distributor of the ball and is a real battler. He is quick, skilful and strong."

Which of you have actually SEEN him play?

Is he a class player from what you've SEEN (as opposed to what you've HEARD)?

Seen him play a couple of times for Zaragoza. Always make good interceptions and is hard on the tackle. I would rate him as one of the best defender in la liga.

Actually, Samuel is not a first team regular.

He has hardly featured for Argentina for the last year. On a personal level he has had a disasterous 18 months.

Samuel's place has been overtaken by Heinze.

Man Utd must find £12M to land Zaragoza's Milito

According to the Daily Star, Real Zaragoza have told Manchester United it will cost them £12 million to sign defender Gaby Milito.

United have approached Zaragoza in the last week to register their interest in the Argentina international, who could easily have been playing for Real Madrid if not for a failed medical two years ago.

Its understood United have tabled a three-year deal to Milito's representatives worth £2 million-a-season and were willing to pay £8 million for the stopper.

But the Daily Star says Zaragoza won't budge from their £12 million valuation, which could be enough to put off United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for good.

He sounds very similiar to Heinze in that he is strong and not that big. I haven't seen him play, my only concern though is the Spanish league is nowhere near as good as some posters here would make you believe.Apart from 2 or 3 top teams the rest are typically poor, the difference between the elite and also rans is much more pronounced than it is in the Premiership, look at how many goals Forlan has scored ffs.We definetely need a ball winning centre half, whether or not this guy is big enough to fill that role is another question, remember the Premiership has a lot of not technically gifted strikers but ones that are strong in the air eg Ferguson,Beattie, Davies,Shearer etc

And to pat 8 or 12M for him where are United going to get the money from..Gill has repeately said that the only money avl. is for a keeper...so unlesss we sell no Milito! and even if we sell Sil. he won't fetch that kind of money!!

well, somehow it looks like silvestre will probably be sold, so there would be money available

doubt that pique is ready to play in all the competition on the highest level yet, and i doubt that he's relieble to do a job for us yet!

Good player, no need to buy him. Sell Silvestre anyhow and give his borderline first team place to Gerard Pique.

Pique needs atleast a couple more years to be ready for first team football.

I reckon spector would be a better choice.

Not from what I've seen. He's ready now.

Spector should be played at full back.

United have been told by Zaragoza it will cost them a cool £8 million for Argentina international Milito, regarded as one of most promising young defenders on the continent.
