GAA - Wicklow Intermediate Football Final goes Viral

It's been a tough 132 years for the GAA fans in Wicklow. It's good to finally be getting some recognition.

What's the intermediate final and how does it tie in to the GAA? I the know the main final is called the All Ireland but other than that I know nothing about the sport.

The All-Ireland is contested between counties. The best players in each county represent their counties. Each county has a competiton between clubs. Players play with their home clubs These clubs are divided into divisions, generally Senior for the top clubs in the county and decending in Intermediate, Junior, Junior B etc.

So for instance the the players on the Dublin senior football team that won the All-Ireland would have players playing their club football mostly in the Dublin Senior Championship.

So this competition was a second tier club championship in Wicklow where the winners would be promoted to Senior the following year.

I have no response to this...

Only noticed this now.

Some finish to the final though. Ye must have put away some amount of Porter after that. As a man who has experienced my county winning All-Irelands and my club winning county titles, though neither as much as I'd have liked, I can say there really is nothing quite like your local club getting county titles. Is remember repeating my leaving cert in 2003 and turning up to school drunk two Mondays in a row and hungover for the other days of both weeks after we won the senior football championship and intermediate hurling championship on consecutive Sundays. The town was buzzing for two weeks.

Incidentally, we went to Aughrim the following Sunday to play Rathnew in the first round of the Leinster club footballer championship. We were narrowly beaten. I'd say the players being on the beer for a fortnight didn't help.

Yeah it doesn't come around too often in Arklow so it was a messy one. I work with one of the Ballinacor lads though and he's an absolute briar this week. Black carded in the match (he's the one the commentator mentions just before they take the penalty).
