Mori pleased with United link

Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Manchester United | Mori pleased with United link

River Plate striker Rogelio Funes Mori has stated his desire to play in the Premier League in the future.

The highly rated 19-year-old has just completed his first season as a senior player in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires, and has caught the eye of some major clubs with a series of eye-catching performances, including a hat-trick against local rivals Racing Club.

Funes Mori, who was previously on Chelsea's radar and was offered trials at Stamford Bridge, made the move to River and played his first game in December of last year.

A hat-trick against Racing Club at the start of May has now seen him linked with Manchester United, who have already signed young Mexican striker Javier Hernandez to add to their striking riches.

Funes Mori did not deny that the opportunity to play under Sir Alex Ferguson at United was a fantastic one, but insisted he was just concentrating on his current club at the present time.

"I really don't know anything about what is being said about the chance of going to Manchester United," Funes Mori told Uno de Mendoza.

"All I know is by what is being said in the press.

"Every player dreams of having the chance to play in Europe and even more if it's in the English Premier League, but I will have to talk about this with my agent.

"At this moment I'm enjoying the chance that I've been given playing in River's first team in this championship that has just finished. And at this moment I'm enjoying my holidays."

Never heard of him....

It is a strange invention of the press in Argentina, Funes Mori actually has only had two or three good games in his career and only scored 4 or 5 goals. Most of the matches where I've seen him he fails a incredible amount of goals.

sky sports say they took it from the blog of "Mendoza Uno" a small provincial argentinian newspaper

Gabriel Funes Mori habló de su posible pase al Manchester United Ovacion Online

in Mendoza Uno they say that they asked funes mori because the news about manchester united's interest was printed in the Daily Star portal,

and what funes mori is saying is that his manager recieved a lot of calls from many teams

that he thinks that english football is the best european football and that he loves how the big teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal play

so he has not a clue about english football, his inclusion of liverpool, manchester city and arsenal proves it quite clearly

He turns out to be a real legend in FM 2010 by the year 2013.

He doesn't. Or maybe he does. I don't know, as I don't play these retarded games. I've just put it here so that some one takes the bait and checks it out for himself/herself/itself. Made him/her/it look!

He's getting better and better for River Plate, still misses a lot of goals. Needs one or two more years in Argentina before moving to Europe

I want to hear Tim Vickery's opinion of this young lad. I hope someone asks him on World Football Phone In.

Manchester City's hunt for new Carlos Tevez could be scuppered by AC Milan double deal for River Plate duo | Mail Online

Manchester City's hopes of replacing Carlos Tevez with a talented teen expected to follow in the Argentine's footsteps could be scuppered by AC Milan.

Both City and Manchester United have watched 19-year-old Rogelio Funes Mori, but Milan are looking to get in first with a double deal for the striker and his River Plate team-mate Erik Lamela.

AC Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida paid a personal check on pair on a trip to South America last week with a view to tabling bids after River Plate's final game of the Argentine season this week.

Funes Mori, a year older than midfielder Lamela, is keen to make the switch to Europe but would not come cheap.

Benfica had a £4.5million bid knocked back in the summer and his Buenos Aires employers have indicated they want more than £12.5m.

Funes Mori has previously been offered a trial at Chelsea and in 2008 won a US reality TV show to earn a contract with FC Dallas before being snapped up by River Plate, where he has enjoyed a breakthrough season.

The 6ft 1in striker scored eight in 28 league games and stepped up to Argentina's Under 20, scoring twice in a friendly against France's Under 23 Olympic side.

Lamela is very highly rated by Tim Vickery.
Mentions him almost every week
