Fullback candidates

Now that the Rio deal seems a formality [fingers crossed]with the man asking for a transfer, who should United target as replacement/backup fullbacks?

the two obvious candidates are Finnan and Bridge -played in the premiership and young. A couple of internationals have been suggested like Candella, Payoul or Carlos[joking!].

I'm in Australia so I'm not up to date with the young players possibly impressing in the other leagues and at International youth levels.

I believe strengthening the fullbacks is as important as the CB's as gazzas absence showed last year.

Can other forum members suggest some candidates if there are any?

Escude, Puyol, Sorin(if Lazio sell him), Bridge, Chivu all seem good. Buying Escude would be good as it would be a great competition between him and Silvestre for the LB spot. Chivu would also be good as Utd. would be able to rotate him between CB and LB depending on whether Blanc plays(he wont be able to play every game like last season). Puyol wouldn't be such a bad signing but not value for money and LB is where we have a weakness tho' Silvestre is great on the attack. Finnan is also an option and can play at LB and at RB and is good on the attack.
 
puyol age wise is the best right back in the world after cafu, he defensivley very very solid, not many left wingers, left backs get past him, and he not bad attacking wise.

in the defense depasrtment he should be a priority after rio, before we get a striker.
 
How about Coly? He looked excellent in the African Nations Cup and WC for Senegal but I know nothing about his club form.

His physical style and pace could help Bechkam a lot on the right flank.
 
Ichek is right. But puyol is my favorite. so much for that :rolleyes: The lad is going to go to Real madrid and brak barca hearts. Not to mention my Manc heart :(
