French not happy

Simon Micallef is Australia's most experienced referee and deserved to be the referee for last night's match. If Kevin Muscat was sent off, then he would ahve been suspended for Australia's world cup qualifying campaign. We, Australia, owe him a lot, if we lost Kevin Muscat, then we could have been in trouble. The defence is struggling to overcome injuries:

Shaun Murphy
Tony Popovic
Craig Moore

Having said that, from a neutral point of view Muscat should have been off.

Robert Pires, what a pig. To spit at an opponent's face is disgusting. Witnessed by Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Robert Pires in the 45th minute spat at Kevin Muscat near the bi-line at the city end of the ground. Today, Kevin Muscat reported that this was not the first time that such an incident has occured. At the Confederations Cup Tournament held earlier this year, Robert Pires again spat at Kevin Muscat.

it was a bad challange and deserved a red. Unfortunately, there were a lot of poor challanges in that game, and not all by Australia either. But of course, because France are world champions, that'll matter little in Europe. They'll all see us as being barbaric savages who could only foul to win.

It's a shame about Dugarry. Feel sorry for him. I just hope the rest of the world don't jump on our backs over it!

Barbarians will meet their match in the upcoming games against Uruguay. <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />

That Soccernet reporter is the most blatantly ignorant man I've ever seen. Had he grown up in the Victorian culture, he'd know exactly why the crowd were shouting at him to get up. 'footballers are real men, soccer players are poofs'. It is in no way meant with any amount of malice, and is little more than a friendly joke.

He claims the crowd noise never got above funeral pitch. This is because it is not a part of Australian culture to sing and chant, but rather to watch the match.

Now I maybe wrong, chances are the reporter was probably an Aussie, but as far as I'm concerned that was prepared purely to extract some sort of passionate reaction from the readers and was not a well written piece of journalism.

Yes, Muscat behaved like a thug, yes the French have a right to be upset at the treatment by the Socceroos, but why take it out on the whole country?

Tiatto plays the game like a man, Murphy and Horvat tackle hard and play the game like a man. Muscat plays like a thug. That was a shocking tackle. Much too high in my book, though Pires's spitting in the face wouldn't have done much for Kevin's temper.
