We're already nursing a couple of past legends through their last season at the club, why would we go out of our way to get another,albeit it a bit younger one in from a rival!

We do need to sign a midfielder, and I guess Lampard as a free transfer would be value. However, he will be 35 next season and probably still looking for close to £100k and a signing on fee- since he's likely to have offers from other clubs at other leagues for that amount.
It would probably, end up being expensive for another immobile ageing midfielder when we should be looking at more energetic and younger midfielders.

What are the rules again? Is he allowed to speak to other PL clubs now, or just foreign clubs? Or none at all?
I thought he signed a contract as did Cole in the end? However he can discuss terms in the last 6 months of his contract I believe.
Cole has signed one but Lampard hasn't.

I think he can only discuss terms with foreign clubs, not with other Premier League clubs until his contract is only a month or so from expiry.

If Fergie was a really great manager, he'd get Lampard and Gerrard and see if he can fit them, along with Scholes, into the same midfield.
