Can someone tell me the point of Fortune ...has he ever ever done anyhing even half decent ??....I can see the pooint of Forlan as a game within a game , will he score ( he wont ) but we are on edge with expectancy ...but Fortune ...why oh why ????/

I agree, he was piis poor tonight. It was the perfect chance for him to shine and he was the worst player on the pitch.
When he ran with the ball he invariably took it to far and lost it, when he passed it was either under or over hit.
Richardson looks streets ahead of him as a possible successor to Giggs

From what I've seen of fortune I don't think he's too bad. I didn't see last nights game but he sounds just like Giggs has been for the last 2 years.

I've always liked Fortunes' attitude, he rarely complains, keeps quiet, and usually works hard when he is needed. These are not easy to do when you are on the bench the whole time. He was a bit off tonite, but then again so were the rest. Give the guy a bit of credit.

All worthy credentials but I think if I was to pull on the old red (or blue or white) shirt and take a run out for the good of the team you would have the same description of me. However I too would not actually help us lift many trophies.

Sadly it is a very British (and Irish) traditon to judge people on their heart and not their true skill and value. It will get you so far (ask Jack Charlton and Kevin Keegan) but you need something else too...ability! (assuming you want to be a winner).

true true.

however, there was some shat on display last night, to be sure.

He's certainly not one to set teh pulse racing.

Nearly everytime someone spreads the ball wide to him, he simply kills it, fakes a shimmy, then lays the ball off. Occassionally (and more when its put for him to run onto) will he run with the ball.

I for one am getting fed up with players putting in 'steady' performances.

Its definately getting close to "Unleash the Keano" time! November is a HUGE month, real make or forget-about-it time <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

The geezer's another one of these won't hear a word said against anything united types. He's tiresome already. How many like him have been and gone before him? Plenty.

Anyway, I think Fortune's problem is that he tries to hard. He's used primarily as an attacking central midfielder for SA I believe and this season when he's played for us he seems to have come in at that position rather than LW where he'd previously played for us. In the SA team he's a permanent fixture and he plays well for them and I think he tries to come in and play for us like he does for them. I get the feeling he likes to direct the show, be at the heart of all the moves. He's got the right attitude in my opinion, just that he needs more games (which he won't get) before he can adapt at slot in nicely to this new role for us.

Exactly. His best games have all been in CM for us. Also QF is very much a 60 minute player. Don't even try and get 90 out of him.

He knows that he has NO chance of taking Giggs's spot on a regular basis. No chance. That is one problem. The other is that he trys just to hard. This is natural considering he is not a regular 1st team player and quite clearly would like to be one. Giggs needs another left sided player ACTIVELY challenging him for his spot.

We seem to have a few of these type at the moment, maybe we should hold back a thrid of their pay packets too.

I have to say that I don't really think Quinton's up to scratch. He's a bit hit and miss (mainly miss) and not really effective in anything he does most of the time although he has scored the odd goal. Exactly the same can be said of Forlan imo and that situation is unlikely to change either. I know Fergie likes him because of, as someome else suggested, his attitude and willingness to work hard plus the fact he's a nice bloke. The cynic in me suggests that United want to keep him as part of their progamme to develop a connection in South Africa. I don't think any of these are reason enough to keep him at a Club like United. I can see someone like Richardson (hopefully) taking over as back up on the left side of midfield, at which time QF will be surplus to requirements. Until that eventuality he seems to be there more or less to make up the numbers when required.
