Just like his playing days in Philadelphia, general manager Bobby Clarke only knows one way to do things: Aggressively.

Sportsnet.ca -- The Philadelphia Flyers made another major signing in the free-agent market Wednesday, signing Peter Forsberg to a two-year, $10.7-million deal.

On Tuesday, the Flyers signed unrestricted free agent defenceman Derian Hatcher to a four-year, $14-million deal, defenceman Mike Rathje to a $17.5 million, five-year deal which includes a no-trade clause, defenceman Chris Therien to a $500,000, one-year deal and free-agent winger Jon Sim to a $450,000, one-year deal. More details to follow ...

Hard to picture Forsberg playing anywhere other than Colorado.

Flyers are going for broke this year. Good signings. If it doesn't work out, they'll probably have to trim the roster next season to afford these new signings.

BTW, I hate all Philly teams. Eagles the most, followed by the Flyers, then the 76ers. The Phillies...well, I can tolerate them, but you won't catch me rooting for them.

As much as I dislike Bobby Clarke, at least he has the drive to win at any expense. Philly fans have cartainly waited for a long time between cup wins and deserve a win more than most others. Hatcher was a good signing and also adds a lot of playoff experience and leadership. Whether Esche will be the goalie to lead them to the cup is the question he must soon address.

I'm speechless and to make it worse my best mate is a Flyers fan :(

Didn't see it coming, eh?

Who are the Avs going to go after with all that salary money?

They have signed Turgeon and Brisebois already......

Turgeon - Far past his prime, don't rate him any longer

Brisebois - Decent but also getting on in age

These two surely do not replace the voids left by Foote & Forsberg's departures.

Any prospects as far as unsigned players? Lacroix must be up to something.

I guess I have to trust Lacroix :nervous:

I hear the Leafs are going to sign Lindros and Jason Allison by the end of the week. Not bad additions to centre considering Sundin is still there. Hopefully we still have a chance with Niedermayer as well.

And Colorado already missed on Demitra...

Niedermayer has signed for the Ducks.

lacroix only had 3m available to sign both foote and foppa. other option would´ve been trading hejduk and tanguay ...

My Flyers mate just called and screamed Forsberg, I answered by telling him that his favourite player Roenick will be traded :D

One of the most colourful and outspoken players in the National Hockey League will get a chance to shine in Tinseltown, as the Philadelphia Flyers have traded veteran centre Jeremy Roenick and a third round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday in exchange for future considerations.

The deal comes just a day after the Flyers signed free-agent forward Peter Forsberg to a two-year, $11.5 million US contract and the team was expected to trade Roenick and keep their payroll under the $39 million US salary cap.

Roenick will make $4.94 million US this season.

In 16 seasons with the Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks, Roenick has scored 475 goals and 1120 points in 1124 regular season games.
Related Info

The Flyers lured him away from Phoenix in 2001 with a five-year, $37.5 million US contract.

Flyers have to be WAY over their salary cap. Surely JR won't be the only one leaving?

I predict a NY Rangers type year for the Flyers. Turgeon may be passed his best, but maybe Forsberg is as well. And if the latter is debateable, what isn`t is the fact that Derian Hatcher has never been anything more than an overrated thug in uniform. He looked better than he was on that Stars stud defense.

GO BLUES

Forsberg is easily one of the five best players in the league.

I know, but how old is he? Colorado won the cup without him, so just how important was he to them?

He's 32 or will be 32 soon. I'm not sure how much longer he will play though he's been injured so often that it is only a matter of time until he quits. Still one of the worlds best player.

GO BLUES

Do you watch hockey? Hatcher was one of the premier defensive d-man in the NHL for a period of 5-7 years (up until his injury in 2003-04). He can hit, defend, give up his body, fight, defend his teammates, a true captain. He's not a great offensive d-man, but has shown the ability to pass and get a good shot off when the system allows (Detroit was giving him this option before the injury). He's not in the Zubov, Pronger (pre-injury), or Borque stratosphere, but he's very solid. I won't say HOFer, because I can't see that happening. But a damn good d-man. Probably on the downside of his career. He'll be a good signing for Philly as long as he doesn't suffer some long-term injury.

Good news on the Stars front. Modano resigned, and this after Boston offered him more money ($20m over 4 years to $17.25m over 5 years). Glad to see a player take the hometown discount and loyal route. He may be on the downside of his career, but he's still the captain of the team and without him, the Stars would have hard a time winning fans back.

The Stars also signed a quality d-man, Martin Skoula. I'm surprised the Avs let him go, but it appears the cap had them by the throat.

Skoula was playing for Anaheim. The avs traded him for Kurt Sauer and a draft pick. Now that Anaheim has Niedermayer, they could afford to let Skoula go.

pretty said Brian Leetch left, wanna see him for another 2 years or so... he was my 2nd favourite in the Leafs'
