It's Ours For Keeps
The Forlan family history is a hard, difficult story to digest. A story of constant struggle. Diego Forlán, a signing that Alex Ferguson pulled out of his shirt sleeve from last year's winter market, was smacked by harsh reality when he was only 10 years old by a grave traffic accident involving his older sister, Alejandra. Alejandra suffered a serious accident on a wet afternoon in Uruguay, the rsult of which left her with a damaged spine and condemned to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Her boyfriend, Gonzalo, sat at her side died in the crash

The accident affected the young Diego so much that he promised his parents that he would become a professional footballer so that he could pay the medical bills.

And he succeeded. After moving through Independiente, where the striker forged his name, he arrived in the Isles. There, near Manchester, Diego has extensively modified his new home so that his sister can move abround freely in her wheelchair.

‘Dieguito’ has shown that he's not dazzled by luxury, bright lights or superficial things and comes across as being caring and kind. His teammates at United admire the effort he has put in. All of them know his family's story and they're all behind him.

Fair play to the lad....he may be feckin terrible but he seems a decent sort, and it a tryer...

I'm glad he scored that penalty.... ;)

I had to ask.

Its good to see you are taking an interest in him.

I am just amused by the fact that although Arsenal supposedly have displaced Manchester United according to their fans, their friends in the media and some panic stricken MU fans, their supporters have nothing better to do than to cruise this Manchester United website.

It`s similar to the AC Milan fans who spend hours slagging off our lads and all Red Devils. I know a United fan became angry about this and bravely tried to fight back on their chatboard but really - doesn`t it show how insecure the fans of Arsenal, AC Milan et al are that they have to spend their time thinking about and writing about Manchester United?

When was the last time I cruised around the Arse`s chatboards? Never - I support the greatest football club of all time so that`s satisfaction enough.

So you're saying that you're better than Arsenal...because there's other fans on here?

Its a fair point.

Thanks for the bit about Forlan. Out of curiousity did you get it off a United fan mag? I read something almost word for word the same about 6 months ago.

Not to get into this again but...

I feel sorry for his sister, BUT SO what, we are not a charity. I am sure there are milions with worse Tragidies and problems, why don't we just hand each 7.5 mil.

we didn't hand Diego 7.5m you fool we paid Independiente 7.5m. We gave Diego the chance to play in England on an average wage. He's still got some time to come through. We gave Veron a whole year didn't we?
