Forlan

apparently, whilst not scoring for U rgay yesterday he did rather well in setting 1 up - anyone see it and wish to elaborate? - the lad is under pressure to score even tho he has 1 for U rgay and it seems that the boo boys cant praise anything he does which is half decent - hence why im trying to highlight his assist yesterday cos the lad got class - even if he is a winger!

In which game? Uruguay played Singapore (subs 2-1)and Tokyo FC (first team 4-0) yesterday. Don't know which game he played. Basically, I wouldn't expect much news to come in respect to him because he doesn't really fit Uruguay's tactics, he is just an option (and would probably be used running down the left flank in that case, striker spot is definitely taken).

he's here in Singapore.. did Uruguay played tokyo too? Cos the coach's here too.. Victor Pua...missing some of the 1st teamers tho`~

Forlan would be better off as cover for giggs on the left (or Beckham on the right) to get him into games more. There's a lot of pressure on him to score and really he should have had at least one by now. If he was at middlesboro he'd probably be packing his bags and flying back to the argentinian league and would be considered a failure. (remember Jon Dahl Thomasson at Newcastle - now a star at Feyenoord!) At least Man Utd can afford to be patient with him.

I saw the Uruguay vs. Singapore game last night. Forlan played very well against a lackluster Singapore side. Made some great runs and passes. Also got an assist on a cross he made.

As far as I could see he passed the ball to the left and from there the ball came in for the goal - hardly an assist

I think it was a mistake to plunge him into the PL before he could really get acclimatised. Maybe he's one for the future - hopefully so anyway - but he really should have spent time in the Reserves to get used to English conditions. It was asking far too much to expect him to come into the PL and ECL and start cracking in the goals straightaway. The Yorke debacle plus the Cole departure, which was a mistake, didn't allow for this however.

The first team stayed in Tokyo and played FC Tokyo in order to have a light hearted practice game and not jetting off to Singapore, risk injuries, come back, etc.

It was far more useful for Pua to observe the subs/out of form players playing Singapore in order to draw some conclusions as the first team and tactics are pretty much defined and it is the alternatives that need a closer looking into.

'kinell, Give Forlan some slack. Why does everybody seem to agree that he's had a bad start for us?
Apart from the obvious lack of goals (he didn't have many starts though...), I think he's shown us plenty to be excited about. Very good football brain, neat control, good passer and works his socks off. Maybe he'll prove to be a better midfielder than forward. He's a young lad, and we can afford to wait. The lad's got plenty of football in him, and I believe he will show the doubters just that next season...

Forlan is a great striker , I`m sure he`s going to shine in Man United soon . Just remember
his shot cleared off the line in 2nd leg with Leverkuzen ? It reminds me of Best`s excellent
goal vs Spurs ( 07.02.71 ) :D

Nao, eu nao sou brasileiro.

I'm actually Uruguayan and know Forlan since he was ~13 (actually knew his sister and saw him a couple of times at his place).

I think he will develop as a very good backup for Giggs and Beckham, with the difference (particularly in Giggs case) that you can rely on him to "stand up and be counted". <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

He is young, he has got a good football brain, he has not scored "yet" but he will and he will also become a great player. Anyone who has seen him play will know that. Just wait and see what happens next season.

I think we expected too much of him plus Fergie played him wrong. Fergie's tactics have been messed up all season.

We have placed too much emphasis on RVN and that means Forlan was made to play as peripherary figure, playing deeper. This should not be his role and played there he will never be a high scorer for us.

Instead he should be played to his strengths, on the defenders shoulders, ALONGSIDE RVN. His movement and pace would be lethal on the counter attack and in the box. His has been asked to provide for his partner from deep rather than be a designated goal scorer, Ole played great there, Forlan cannot.

Play him as we played Cole and things will get better.

I watched Diego in action at Independiente and was quite impressed. The lack of goals aside, his workrate has been excellent and I'm sure the goals will come as he continues to gain confidence with the players, his new surroundings, and the experience of this past year. I'm expecting big things from him in the future.

I reckon Indra is better than Forlan <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Hey! Antohan.....that was funny... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Poor Donkey...I suppose he needs shrek...

As for Forlan, he has good movement and you need good movement to be successful in the premiership...looking forward to some great moments from him....

True, but I thought a lot of Forlan's finishing lacked any real conviction - a lot of tame hits at the goalie or wild strikes from miles off.

I think he's going to be a real star though, needs to realise the settling in period is over next season.

Exactly, what you mention is actually quite true, he has been so anxious about THAT first goal that he every ball that gets anywhere around him he just bangs it towards goal regardless. In all probability one should go in at some point and then he will be more relaxed about it.

I have to say I was a bit worried when I heard of him going to United as it was a big jump but then on second thoughts I was also happy that he would get the time and patience needed to adapt and get things going (had he gone to Boro he would be back home by now!).

Once it is clear what role he is meant to perform (goalscoring striker or supporting the attack on the wings, whichever) he will rock. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

forlan played agsnt singapore and i watched it live in our national stadium. i went there wanting to catch forlan and recoba but recoba didnt play. hapi to see forlan. scored a goal but was ruled out for offside. had a few pretty gd chances to score but didnt. But made some good runs , one of which set up their first goal. my rating 6.5/10

hope he does better in WC

As ever, to many fans expect far to much of a player the instant the sign....Admittidly Ruud V has settled much better than anyone expected & has shown he is WORLD CLASS..I really think we need to give players more time to settle....
If Ruud hadn't been so prolific - would some of the fans treated him the way Veron & now Forlan has been...As supporters, who have been blessed with such success over the last few years..its easy to forget the no so succesful years...We support the TEAM, not an individual!!! If they are not up to task, the ineviatble will happen & they will be sold...As i said , we support the whole TEAM, not just certain players :)

You can't really compare Ruud's case with Forlan's. It is very different to go into the EPL & CL coming from Dutch football than the Argentinian league!

totally agree with you, am sure he will shine....
i have seen him in a few of UTD games & am impressed by his touch & awareness...am sure he will contibute well enough.

regards
mark

Forlan scored a cracking goal for United reserves and hit the bar and the upright with thunderous drives. Next season you will all be raving about him. Take my word for it! ;)
