Why not? How can you drop him after his performances in the last 2 league games? Playing him up front in a 4-4-2 takes a bit of the burden off Ruud and Forlan gets space as Ruud is so closely marked. They're combining better and better. They should be given the chance to form a partnership.

His confidence will be sky high now. I hope he keeps his place next week.

It would make no sense to drop him for the Arse match. I scoring two against Liverpool doesn't give you a place in the team, then what does?

Sir Alex said after the match that the team will be pretty much the same. Blanc and Veron might be back but you don't change a winning team.

I am as happy as any, but be more objective please, there is no Guarantee Arse GK will be the same, Our hero was giving the ball away all the time and when he was supposed to score he did not..His performance was bad until the goals...
Having said all of this I still want to celebrate no matter what and will leave the selection thing to Fergie. Off to Koptshite for some fun :D

Look u piece of shit, based on this Diego is better than RVN since he did not score today.!!!?
Look I hate the scousers 100X than U do, But guess what, I still want to celeb and thank God for our good luck and our great defence. :p

AL, don't allow yourself to be cornered on this issue. True Forlan had a horrible start at Utd in terms of scoring (great work rate though). Now that he's started scoring, its time to put the past behind and support him.

A few more good Performences and it does not matter he scores or not, he would have earned it, But nothing I hate more than being called a scouser from people who watch bits and pieces of a game, I am Happy with our victory and I am going to have a great night, no a great week.

For the Arsenal match, I'd like to keep the exact same team that started today...whether or not Rio/Larry/Seba are healthy and fit. On paper, with all our injuries, we shouldn't have won that match today...especially away from home. But this team, starting with the Newcastle match, has shown a hunger, desire and determination that I hadn't seen for quite awhile. They are finally playing as a team, and they've all done enough to deserve a start against Arsenal next week.

who said hes better than Ruud?
Diego has just sunk the dippers, and you still have to slag him, its not on

Diego has earned this moment !

Surely, you can't slag him off now, can you ?

Look, I was happier than the next guy, and I was not planning to say a thing, same Like his fans who dissappear when he screw-up(90% of time), but when they come out from under the rock(except Murt who always stood by his man)and say where is ALGred now, and make him the new Maradona or Cantona, when he is not, then I am entitled to defend my opinion.

As I said last week, Forlan has showed obvious improvment and settled into the team. I find no reason why he can't start against Arsenal.

ALGred, I certainly respect your right to express your opinion about certain player. But since Forlan is our hero today, when he helped us to beat our biggest rival he surely deserved it's not the cleverest time to express your negative opinion on him, right ;)

Forlan will start, Fortune won't.

.............Barthez...........

G. Nev Brown Blanc Silvestre

Ole Scholes Veron Giggs

.............Forlan ...........

........... Van the Man........

I just watched the re run of the match and in the Post match interview SAF was asked if he would pick the same team next week his reply yes the team picks itself after this performance. Not that we can take that as fact , it is very unlike him to make such a comment though.

The midfield tackling will be too weak in your team. Please keep the winning team.

I think Quinton has to play because we have to have a holding midfield player. It's going to be tough enough without Keane/Butt against Vieira. With Seba and Scholesy, the centre would be too soft. So, I think it really comes down to dropping Seba or Diego again.

And if you drop Diego (which I think would be really unfair after his heroics yesterday), it would also have a knock on effect on Scholesy. He'd have to be moved from central midfield, in my opinion his best position...and where he's been so influential these last 2 league matches, to play up alongside Ruud.

Fergie has never gone with goalscoring form. I remember Ole scoring four against Everton, then one against Valencia a few days later, and then dropped against West Ham on the Saturday.

id play

------------Fab------------

Neville---Wes-Silv---O'Shea

------Fortune--Veron-------
Olle------------------Giggs
-----------Scholes----------

------------Ruud-----------

With Veron and Fortune lying very deep, only one of them following the attack.

Scholes relieved of defensive duties.

Defending with 7 outfield players, ie not Ruud, Scholes and one of Giggs or Olle

Attacking with 6-7 players, ie 2 strikers, 2 wingers, 1 central midfielder and a full back, possibly another full back pushing up slightly depending on circumstances.

so who takes over these defensive duties Murt? i lost count of the number of times scholey was back deep clearing up , breaking down the thieves, water-carrying. he was immense. can veron do the same?
OK were at home but we will look frail against their midfield movement :(

No O'Shea? He was our best defender on Sunday.

Veron Fortune, the 4 defenders and whichever of the widemen thats furthest back. Veron is definitely up for the job.
ie 7 + the keeper. Scholes would be available for the pass as soon as we gain possesion.

Are Veron and Fortune really tough enough to stop their midfield?

Besides, Murt, don't pretend you are a Forlan supporter. No matter how good Forlan does, and no matter how bad Veron play, you'd still think Forlan must give way to Veron, right?

Maybe so, but I think Fergie will go for experience, especially at the back, and Brown just edges out O'Shea.
Who knows...perhaps the O'Shea experiment against Burnley points to the fact Fergie will play a defender in midfield against the Arse?

agreed, Forlan is still striker nr 3, but hes catching up. Ive never claimed Forlan to be Marco van Basten, just a lot better than a few ppl here made him out to be.
Fortune/ Veron would do fine against Arsenal imo,

i reckon it'll be better for Fortune to start than Veron.

Fortune's more of a defensive midfielder and he'll be needed to close down on those typical Arsenal through balls. When Veron's there, he wanders off too often, leaving them too much space.

Or perhaps Forlan will drop back to the bench as Fergie plays a 5-man midfield with Ruud solo upfront.
