He's off to Inter apparently!

Inter sign Italian star Alessandro Nesta.
MILAN, May 15 (DS)
By Filippo Zucchi

Italian superstar Alessandro Nesta commented the following about his future while resting in Azzurri technical resort Coverciano (near Florence) a couple of days ago: "I know were I will go next year". Meanwhile, today Nerazzurri manager reported Nesta has signed a big deal with Inter Milan, but the details of the contract are still kept in secret as the club officials alongside with the player have decided to keep the deal under silence till the end of the World Cup.

To be honest i am pleased (if this is true), its not that don't think NESTA is a fine defender and footballer i just didn't/don't want him at united i don't think he is the type of UNITED need ie more of a STAM style player eg AYALA plus i think we should spread our transfer money around a bit to strengthen the squad and not put it all on one player.

Exactly what is wrong with Nesta? I believe he's over 6 feet tall (Stam), built like a rock (Stam), and fast (not Stam). So to me, he sounds much better than Stam was at his prime. IMO, he's the best CB out there and he's only 26 (I think).

Top 5 CBs IMO:
1. Nesta
2. Samuel
3. Ayala
4. Hyppia
5. Thuram

So is Linford Christie.......

BTW, Stam not fast?? I beg to differ.

What about Lucio? He's impressed me a great deal with Bayer. Creates havoc going forward, scores shitloads of goals (for a defender), very strong defensively and lightning fast.
He's unorthodox, and is prone to make mistakes once in a while. STill, I think he's the most exciting centre back I've seen in a long while. Only 24 too...

Well, he's a great signing in my opinion... other than the possible 30 million + price tag...

OUCH!!!

Couldn't we just bring back Bruce and Pally??? I bet we could get them for cheap...

;)

Agree !! This is a guy who'll fit in in our back four
:D He got it all, so it's no way to NOT get him... Go for him Fergie (maybe thats why u were at the game last night :D )

I have said from day one that we won't be able to get Nesta, but people just won't believe :( Is the football manager computer games so popular that everyone here seems are addicted to it?

IMO Nesta is not for Man Utd.I think Nesta is overrated superstar.

My top 5 choice for CB:
1.Thuram
2.Cannavaro
3.Samuel
4.Ayala
5.Nesta

Sure, along with Houllier, Capello, Wenger and half the other big managers in Europe. And don't forget that Real are watching him too - they've openly expressed interest. He looks to be going nowhere though - wifes expecting a baby, and doesn't want to move for a year at least.

Nesta we will most likely get. Go to the Inter sight and you will see that they deny any knowledge of signing or contacting Nesta. Rela Madrid even siad they don't need him because of Pavon!

If he comes - great, the more world class players the better, we have some catching up to Real to do.

However he is certainly not who I'd go for if I was Fergie, I suppose thats why we have Championship Manager.

Mexes all the way. I pray everyday that we get Mexes. Sad isn't it?

I would love Nesta but think the price is too high. The PLC wont allow us to buy the other players we need. These are:-
1 full back (cost 5m) Finnan?
1 wide player to cover for Giggs and Beckham (cost 10m)Duff?
1 forward, third behind RVN and OGS but ahead of Forlan (cost 10m).
Assuming Blanc goes we will need 2 established CBs (cost 15m each, unless we go for Nesta or Thuram).
Sales:- Yorke, Fortune Wallwork and possibly other fringe players (10m)
Nett Loss = 45m

PLC will not allow this.
Persuade Larry to stay and hope O'Shea and/or Brown develop saving 15m. If they don't develop the board are more likely to agree 30m this year, 15m next rather than 45m in one hit.

If Nesta arrives for 30m then we miss two from FB, wide player and third striker - unless the board is keane to fix these problems.

The board have demonstrated their commitment last season. If the players are available and fit the criteria (Kenyon has stated under 28 years of age)then UTD will bid.

I have every confidence that there is a different mindset now. On of the reasons Fergie signedon for another three years is he felt for the first time UTD were serious about competing for the world's best.

Fergie knows that the books have to be balanced. We will see a lot of players leave this season (Irwin, Yorke, Johnsen, May, RVG, Fortune and I believe Blanc). That will not bring in huge sums but it will massively cut the wage bill. Stam money is still owed and UTD will turn in a very healthy end of seson profit (even taking into account last seasons transfers)of around £60 million. We will also see the Nike deal kick in next season (£20 million a season).

The board know they have to invest heavily in the defence this summer. They also know that UTD have to hit back after the disappointments of this season.

I expect some significant signings that will strike dread again into the teams facing us next season.

Oops, I've just noticed my typing errors - that should read "One of the reasons Fergie signed on..." and "end of season profit" Note they announced half year profits of £30 million this year (the best ever). They budget for a top three finish in the PL and a quarter final appearnce in the CL.

The financial picture is healthy folks. And I like Kenyon, I really do.
