Kluivert - Never in my books.

Dunno - but Maakay is a proven goal scorer and would be more of a team player than Kluivert I think.

i dont mind to have him at all..
but i think he will cost quite alot as bayern is fighting for him as well..and he will be 29 next yr..i prefer a younger striker..

Maakay is older than Ruud, and in my impression he is not particular fast or skillful, so I doubt he really suits our need for a partner of Ruud.

Mackaay is quoted on the front page of the sports section of their version of the Sun here in Germany today:

"I don't want to play for Bayern, I want to play for Man United."

 Reckon we can't go wrong with a player who scored 27 goals in La Liga.

spot on...

he's a lineleader(from what I've seen of him)...wonder how he'll fit in our system....eh Dans??? ;)

Makaay actually played very well as a supporting forward ... I have seen him play behind Tristan in many occasion and he's really impressive. Only of late when Tristan keep staying out due to injury and Makaay get to move further up and he has impressed even more ...

I really like this guy ... he look such a complete footballer for me and he looks a real humble blook ...

Kluivert on the other hand .. arrogant shit - I am not sure how long he could survive before geting hit by SAF's boot :p

I read that Makaay saying he definitely not staying with Depo after his contract expire ... anyone know if it's gonna be up this or nxt season ?

Yep, my thoughts exactly mate.

Nice to know he <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3030491.stm" target="_blank">prefers United</a> anyway <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

<a href="http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=146652&cpid=22&title=Makaay+wants+United+move" target="_blank">another link here</a>

Makaay never really made it in Holland. Not sure if he would be someone who could partner van Nistelrooy up front.

There are some young strikers coming up in Holland, but they are not yet MUquality, give them some time to grow up. Ruud was not very known at all when he came to PSV. They even said he was not good enough for us... See how things can change in a few years time... ;)

kluivert would be an ideal player to play with ruud, they are best mates, ruud wants him to join and he is quite cheaply available. We should follow this one up.As for his attitude well fergie gets the best out of players, veron was outspoken befor ehe joined now he just gets on with job and respects the great man.i say go for kluivert.mackay is good dont get me wrong but not in kluivert's class.

Exactly. A world class player who'd fit in just fine.

From what I've heard, Kluivert goes missing in a crisis and isn't a team player.

How many goals has he scored this season as a matter of interest?

Have to agree Penny. Kluivert is trouble as well as a lazy twat. Makaay wants to come to United, contract is up in 2005 and Depo is saying he isn't for sale. Everyone has a price tho so it will be interesting to watch this play out.

Incidentally, I hadn't seen those reports of Maakay saying he would play for us before Bayern.

Spooky.

Hm, I'm not quite sure. If you ask me, we don't need those two. Cisse is the right man for us.

Makaay is world-class. He's very similar to Ruud so tbh I think your money would be better spent on strengthening another position.

It would be interesting to see if they could play together. Perhaps if Advocaat tried them up front in Holland's next match, we could get a better idea. I'd take both Makaay and RVN over Kluivert every time.

I would like to see an english foward soemthing we have not had since cole, Defoe would be my choice but the youth team foward johnson looked very good, may be a bit too soon but i would love a centre foward to break into the first team from the youths

In Holland team, Kluivet has always been first choice and performed better than Makaay in most occasion. Not that we should go after him though. On the other hand, ManUtd has been linked to Makaay ever since he emerged as young promising talent 5-6 years ago, but nothing ever developed. I doubt if we will go after him now. Somehow, I'm not so thrilled with both. Any other strikers?

Let Kluivert join his first love Arsenal, he'd fit in just fine with all those other arrogant whingers.
Agree that Makaay is similar to RVN and its hard to see them playing together.

Ideally, we'd get one of

Raul
Del Piero
Totti

But, since it's rather unlikely, we might as well sign Kewell or Duff and let Giggsy play upfront.

If it's Kewell than he would surely be the one to play up front with Giggsy playing on the left again. He scores more goals and looks more comfortable up there than Giggs does.

They did a feature on Makaay on futbol mundial recently and he came across as a really soft-spoken fellow and in one of the interviews, he attributed his impressive tally of goals this season to the team rather than to his own skills.

Not to mention his all-round ability as a complete centre-forward.

Would love to have him at OT.

A proven goal scorer is perhaps the best league in the world, WAT ELSE DO WE NEED????..

ruud and roy........wat a partenrship that wud be. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

we get him for aorund the same price we paid for ruud, it wud be sensational. not sure abt that tho...

Yes!Buy him coz he's good and he's at the 28 now.It means that we have 4-5 more seasons to train our young strikers (Webber,Nardiello,Forlan)
and then replacing him when his retirement.I hope we r not dreaming here~~~ <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Gee! That's brilliant!

And he won't cost a dime plus his salary demands are very reasonable - I think he's in the £35,000 p/w bracket!

Better than spending millions on another 30 year old who'll need 2 seasons to settle, & whose salary demands will be much higher, right?

( Remember when Keano recovered his form after his latest injury, everyone said it was as good as signing a new player? )

Only thing is, will Fergie go for it? ;)

i agree with you..
but who can really replace Ruud to score the goals when he's injured??? or
who to partner ole when Ruud is injured?..not Forlan..although giggs+scholes can do the job..but we cant rely them to score that much of goals that a striker score right..
