What are some of the football records that make your mind boggle and that you don’t expect to be beaten in your lifetime? Which one seems the most unbreakable? Couple of ideas:
- Just Fontaine scoring 13 goals in a single World Cup (6 matches)
- Chelsea 04/05 conceding only 15 league goals all season
- Messi 91 goals in a calendar year
- Madrid 3 consecutive CL wins
- Lewandowski 5 goals in 9 minutes

We haven't lost a home game in the PL when leading at half-time since 1984

United have had an academy player at least on the bench for every game since 1937

The Chelsea 15 goals conceded in an entire league season will never be beaten and I don’t think the Lewandowski goal blitz will be seen again, either. Not in any of the top leagues anyways.

If that City treble team that barely gave most of their opponents a sniff of the ball couldn’t beat the Mourinho defensive record I don’t think anyone ever will.

First one that came to mind for me.

Chelsea 04/05 conceding only 15 league goals all season
In the major leagues, Cagliari (0.367 goals conceded per match), Liverpool (0.381 goals conceded per match) and Milan (0.4 goals conceded per match) have a better record than Chelsea (0.417 goals conceded per match).

Of course, you could have been referring to just Premier League football, in which case the point is rendered moot. :)

Anyway, I'd like to nominate Dixie Dean's single-season record of 60 goals with a goals-per-game ratio of 1.538 in a major league (i.e., the First Division).

Also, Archie Thompson's record of 13 goals in an international match.

I'd have thought this one was safe, but with the World Cup expanding I'm not so sure. A striker now has up to 8 games and more low-quality opposition to boost his stats.

I think they can all be beaten (perhaps with Lewandowski as an exception if you are e.g. limiting to top 5 domestic leagues). Messi's 91 goals will also be difficult but it's not impossible, especially given how many matches the top teams play in modern football.

After this season Chelsea will be the only club to have won all 5 major European competitions: Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League, Super Cup and Cup Winners Cup.

The only other 4 eligible clubs who could do this are Bayern Munich, Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United. I kind of doubt the first three would ever be in the Conference League and as for United...well if they do end up in that competition eventually then they probably won't be good enough to win it.

Palermo missing 3 pens in one game. No way will someone ever miss 4

Manchester United and what 87 years and counting, to have homegrown player in every matchday squad. That is just crazy and long may it continue to hundreds of years

Giggs with 13 premier league titles will be difficult to beat.
I know Foden is already on 5 but I expect most, if not all of those to be nulled. Also could be a while before they win another with the 115 charges so I think Giggs' record is safe.

I think all of these records are super hard to break, maybe even will never be broken.

Most sent-off: 46 –Gerardo Bedoya(very tough to break this, on the impossible level)

Most red cards given in a match: – Argentina ClaypoleVictoriano Arenas, 36 red cards, 3 March 2011(I don't think it will be broken)

A referee has set a record by showing 36 red cards in a single game, dismissing all the players, substitutes and coaches.
Referee Damian Rubino would later file his match report, in which he saw fit to serve every player with a red card, along with a further 14 people, a mixture of subs and coaches.

Victoriano Arenas manager Domingo Sganga, discussing the manic scenes in Buenos Aires, was quoted as saying: "They wanted to kill me". Meanwhile his opposite number Sergio Micielli says the referee overreacted to the brawl: "Most players were trying to separate people. The ref was confused".

Rubino's red cards could yet be overruled by the local FA according to reports.

Most direct corner-kick goals: 32Turkey Şükrü Gülesin, 1940–1955(impossible for me too)

Dixie Dean's 60 goals in a season, people got excited about Haaland threatening it at the start but he didn't even get to 2/3 of the way there. There are 4 less games than Dean's day, so you'd have to score at any even more ridiculous scoring rate. Even Messi could only manage 50 in one La Liga season. I could see a player eventually score 40 goals in a Premier League season, but 60 is unlikely to be ever beaten.

Bruno Fernandes - Most goal involvements in his 10 PL games with 13. Joint with this guy.

The 15 goals conceded in one season.... at the start of the season a Lot of the Arsenal fans said that record was going to go..i don't think they realise how long a season is

Liverpool in 79 conceded 16 goals in a 42 game season, which is a better record when adjusted for games played. So kinda broken years before Chelsea's record was ever "set".

Pele with 3 World Cup winner medals as a player. Could be matched, but someone winning 4? Only really happening if a country wins 4 in a row, which I don't ever see happening. Even winning 4 from 5 would be almost impossible.

An English record, Stanley Matthews still playing top flight football at 50 years old.
No chance that's being beaten, it was wild to see Giggs or Sandringham still going at 40, he had a decade on them.

This is should have been said far earlier. 4 World Cups is basically impossible as a player. Especially in modern football. Will never be broken.

What's that United record when winning at half time at Old Trafford in a league game? Goes back decades.

Derby's 11 points in 07/08 will take some beating. I don't think we'll ever see anyone finish lower than that.

Was just about to post this.

That Derby team really were woeful! They were terrible defensively even in the Championship the year before but managed to score quite a few goals and sneak up through the play offs.
